I noticed that some scan groups put male pregnancy as a warning for some of their scans. If I understand it right, usually when you put a warning it's something that offends or is 'squicky' to some people.

But really, after you read yaoi, why does mpreg still bothers you?

I mean, I understand that rape, bondage, watersport, or shota may induce a warning since it's on another spectrum of sexual deviance. But putting mpreg as a warning would be like putting cat boys as a warning for Loveless. It definitely doesn't happen in real life, as do most yaoi fantasies (falling in love with your rapist for example, HAPPENS ALMOST EVERY SINGLE EFFING TIME in BL, but not in real life).

For me personally, I don't really mind it. I'm just curious as to what other people think about it. Do you particularly stay away from mpreg? Do you find it offensive or too weird?

Discuss biggrin

Maybe they put a warning because it's "out of the norm", so to speak. I've read a handful of mpreg titles, but I wasn't particularly put off by it. In fact, I was curious how they gave birth, LOL.

Some may not want to see mpreg, some may not want to see shota, I guess it's just best to put up a sign so that fans know what they're being served.

Anyways, I'll read almost anything. When they warn me about mpreg, it piques my interest even more. After reading too many titles, I don't think I find things weird anymore.

The whole concept of a gay relationship is ruined with male pregnancy. If one has the organs to make a child, they may as well just be a female. If a child must be added to the mix (which I am not interested in reading to begin with) then why not adopt or have a single parent? Surrogate mothers even? I just never understood the concept and I doubt I ever will. It would not scar me, but I am definitely not interested so a warning is appreciated because it highlights what stories to avoid.

It annoys me. When I want to read a yaoi story I want to read a story about two GUYS. Not women in men's bodies. Not women with dicks. Not men who have a magical vagina ass. Guys. If I wanted something else I wouldn't read yaoi or bl. Why even make them guys in the first place if they are going to look womanly and be able to have kids? I never understood that. Why not just go all out and give them boobs and make em a full woman? Btw I avoid shota and rape=love as well.

Lol, what the fuck? Might as well make it a woman then. Guys getting pregnant? That's friggin gross. Being gay is doing ass. Not vagina in disguise.

It doesn't really offend me, but I don't want to read stuff with mpreg in it, because I find it so ridiculous that it ruins the story for me completely. That's why I'm glad that there's some kind of note about mpreg in the summary, so I know about it before I start reading (and liking) the story. Maybe they could not put it as "warning", but rather as category, etc.?

Wow. I'm amused at how small-minded a lot of people here are.
You do realize people haveing cat ears or doing magic is just as unlikely as a guy getting pregnant, right? Saying it's ridiculous because it's not realistic is extremely hypocritcal if you have ever read anything that wasn't 100% realistic. Also; bearing children in a fantasy world where men can get pregnant wouldn't make them women at all. It would just be set in a different world than ours, just like men can't do magic here either. I'd also argue that people who are intersex/hermophrodites but identity as men are still men and they are sometimes capable of having children. The same can be said about transmen. Also, what, exactly is a chick with a dick? If he identify's as male than he is male regardless of however traditionally feminine he might be acting.

Some people just want to write their favourite character in a situation that they wouldn't normally have to deal with, like, pregnancy. I have for example read a mpreg manga that dealt specifically with getting pregnant after rape wich is a farily serious theme that was done wonderfully with a male character. Or if you want a plot that goes something like "One-night-stand --> get's pregnant ---> other finds out about child years later" with two male characters there needs to be mpreg. In these scenarios adopting a child wouldn't work in the plot.

Personally I'm not fond of pregnancy in general, so I tend to avoid it, but I don't see the preblem just because they are guys.

And if I may add, a lot of guys in yaoi mangas look plenty girly already :/ They couldn't look even more girly even if they wanted to -_- For example, the works of Hoshino Lily, Haruka Minami, Itsuki Kaname, and a few others. Guys in yaoi already look girly and some even wear girly clothings (maid outfits, for example). They're pretty much 'chicks with dicks' already but nobody really get offended of it.

And as Vilde0806 already pointed out, mpreg is as imaginary as cat boys and magic. There are things more outrageous out there... (believe me, I've been around) but I think seeing the response posted here (and the fact there's very few mpreg titles available) mpreg seems to be seen with extra squick and dislike. Is it because although people's concept of sex has shifted into a more liberal view, they're still very conservative about procreation?

Interesting.

Oh maybe people just doesn't like to see pregnancy in general. Meh.

^It's a little bit of that last part for me. That and I have a limit w/ fantasy stories. For me pregnant=woman. I just think a lot of girls like to see the uke as a stand in for themselves and that is why they prefer them to be girly, smaller than the seme, and the idea of them getting pregnant is cute. Small minded of me maybe but I take pride in how stubborn I am. cool I prefer more realistic slice of life types like Doukyuusei (NAKAMURA Asumiko), Mirai no Kioku, Future Lovers II. Not so big on the fantasy ones.
