I was thinking of reading Homunculus; but the thing is, I had a pretty traumatizing experience with one of Yamamoto Hideo's previous works, Koroshiya Ichi.
So, what I wanted to know was - how much graphic sexual content does this manga have? Is there a lot of rape, S&M, prostitution etc. that is depicted in long-winded detail?
I saw a comment which went something like "Don't be put off by the twisted sex..." , so I'm rather vary of attempting this manga.
I'd be really grateful if someone would let me know!

My advice to you? DON'T READ HOMUNCULUS IF YOU CAN'T STOMACH EXTREMELY BIZARRE SEX SCENES.
It's not as bad as Ichi the Killer - but it is still very, very, disturbing. And by looking through your lists to gain an idea of how much you can tolerate, I can guarantee that this is one manga you shouldn't bother trying to get into!

Well, it is a pity, but I kind of figured as much anyway. After all, this is Yamamoto Hideo's manga we're talking about!

Seriously - I read the first 1 1/2 volumes, and I was so shocked by the rape, masturbation and twisted, perverse sexual imagery that it put me off my food for at least a couple of days dead.

i would agree with calstine that this manga probably isnt for you, but i dont think in anyway that it is disturbing, or at all hard to handle.
there are sex scenes, but only one is at all twisted in anyway from what i have seen, and it really is more gross that it is disturbing.
look at it this way, this manga doesn't even have a adult tag on it, so you should be okay.
i would say you should give it a chance, but if at any point it is too much for you put it down.

whahaha you think so?me too  sexual attraction every chapter i think  cant even sleep at night thinking how they rape,masturbate,sexual picture how sad to me...

yep, that's so sad of you. ^^;;;
anyway, homunculus is not for person who can't stomach dark and out of the box scenes.
the side effect of reading it : you can either be preoccupied by it or mind sick

well i don't think its that bad, but yeh there are some scenes that probably will stick with you
however in comparison to Ichi the Killer i think Homunculus is a lot more philosophical and more of an open minded subject, every thing the main character does is for the intent of helping people out.
i think u should try it
i didn't like Ichi the Killer too much, but sure enough Homunculus became one of my absolute favorite manga

It doesn't have that s&m, prostitution, murder, etc. content. I'd say it's more to the 'psychological' heaviness side (Ichi too though).
Why do you want to read it anyway? From the OP it seems you liked the idea of Hideo Yamamoto's manga, you just didn't like the frequency disturbing stuff is exposed. If that's the case Homunculus kinda fits. However you can just wait until you'll be in the mood. Or try Okama Report. It's funny at least.
