I'm looking for a manga that is enjoyable to read and I won't know what's happening before it even happens, like most shounen's. It doesn't have to be a keep you on your toes, confusing/ever changing manga. Just something original that doesn't take 20+ volumes to get to the point, at the same time something with at least 5 volumes would be nice. I like having time to enjoy watching my characters grow. Hopefully that makes sense, if not I can probably elaborate a bit more if you need.

One I'm thinking about starting is xxxholic and fma(despite my initial dislike).

Maybe you should specify what genres / demographics you prefer? That'd help - otherwise people will just suggest what they like and not what you want.

For now, how about ;

Mushishi - You really have to try this - it's just the best manga EVER!

Real - Probably one of the best sports manga out there - and very different from what you usually get from this genre.

Vinland Saga , Historie , Cesare - On the historical / action front.

Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles , X , RG Veda - You should probably try these if you like xxxHolic.

Petshop of Horrors , Yumekui Kenbun - Slightly philosophical slice-of-life + supernatural + psychological manga.

Monster , Pluto , 20th Century Boys - Sci-fi , conspiracy theories , mystery.

Until Death Do Us Part - Action , sci-fi.

2001 Ya Monogatari - Really good astronomy-type sci-fi.

Kaze no Tani no NausicaƤ - Naturalism themes with some action.

Bokurano - Psychological , mecha.

Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou - The ultimate quiet slice-of-life manga.

Yotsubato! - So very adorable!

I'll come back and suggest more once you let us know your preferences. For now, I just went with general stuff that anyone will like.

Wow, that was a lot more than I expected to get on the first comment biggrin. It's nice to see that a few titles I've put in my "to be read" section are on you're suggestions too.
