I've often noticed that there are shounen / seinen manga with a predominantly female cast, such as K-ON! (seinen) and Aria (shounen) , as well as shoujo / josei with primarily male casts like 07 Ghost (josei) and Uragiri wa Boku no Namae o Shitteiru (shoujo).

So, I wanted to find something the exact opposite. In other words I'm looking for :-

1. A shoujo / josei manga where every significant character is female (Examples being Cotton and The Secret Stairs.)

2. A shounen / seinen manga with a predominantly male cast. (The only examples I can think of are Get Backers and Sengoku Basara.)

Please note that all the protagonists and important side characters should be of the same gender - but supporting characters of the opposite gender can be present.

Also, while I am certain there is no such thing as seinen + yaoi, there are some josei + yuri manga out there. I don't want something like that. While implied / mild shoujo-ai is okay, I am not looking for explicit girl's love content.

On that note, please do not recommend anything with graphic sexual content, nudity or ecchi.

Do manga like this exist?

If so, I eagerly await your recommendations!

For shounen I thought of Yu-Gi-Oh!. Pretty much all the cast, excluding one slightly major character and a few minor ones, is male.
Then there are the shounen sports manga like Prince of Tennis (as previously mentioned) and Captain Tsubasa.

As a thoroughly obsessed fan of all-girls school stories, I can suggest Maria-sama ga Miteru, Hatsukoi Shimai, Sakura Namiki, Applause, Clover (OTSU Hiyori) and pretty much every single thing published by Yuri Hime and its predecessor Yuri Shimai (but not Yuri Hime S, which is seinen-oriented).
These are all very light, fluffy, purepure shoujo-ai.

By the way, yaoi+seinen = bara.

Oooh! I can't believe I forgot about Hunter x Hunter and Prince of Tennis! Thank you for reminding me smile

A big thank you to those who replied - everyone understood my request well, and I'll be checking out all of these titles.

More suggestions are always welcome.

Switch should fit pretty well.

And, as for seinen, how about Saraiya Goyou? I've only seen the raws, but it seems that pretty much all the important characters are male.

Akagi as well, though I notice you're reading it.

Zipang

Livingstone - They meet a lot of different women through the course of the story, but none of them actually stay, so yeah- this should fit too. Maybe it's still early days to say, though.

Worst is the only title I can think of...

Edit: Sanctuary?
I think most sport manga fit your requirements. (Giant Killing or the Tsubasa series)
Oh, now that I think about it, Yu Yu Hakusho only has one female character.

@MewMan
Sanctuary isn't really to my taste (too much sex ^^) - but everything else looks good.

The SAIYUKI series springs to my mind. Main leads are almost all male.
Of course I could misunderstand what you're looking for.

AZUMANGA DAIOH : Boys are rare and few in this one.
ICHIROH can count too.

For a shounen manga with a cast full of TRUE MEN, try Sakigake!! Otokojuku.

So full of badassery, so much oozing with testosterone, so freaking MANLY, that anything that comes in contact with this manga grows hair in various places.
