I need manga with deuteragonist characters. laugh Romance please <3 Also, no yaoi, yuri, ecchi or hentai. Not too keen on sci-fi (unless it's really good and not too scientific). dead

Thanks. :3

EDIT:
Quote
In literature, the deuteragonist is the second most important character, after the protagonist and before the tritagonist. The deuteragonist may switch from being with or against the protagonist depending on the deuteragonist's own conflict/plot.

I had to go look it up..... Anyway, isn't that something most stories would have? Characters of secondary importance?

Well, anyway, try Kare Kano.

Updated posts... laugh

Alannaeowyn, nope. The best example I can think of it Avatar: The Last Airbender (Zuko) and Durarara!! (Celty). There's basically a primary and secondary plot. The 'deauteragonist' tends to be the main character of the secondary plot.

Interesting, I learned some new terms...

Hmm, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann? Though it's more like the deuteragonist takes over position as protagonist.

Noblesse, definitely. No romance so far, but there seems to be hints...

Glass Mask - maybe this counts because of Masumi's role?

Full Moon o Sagashite - lots of background plots going on.

Skip Beat - the focus often shifts between Kyoko and Ren as the series progresses.

Fruits Basket

Fruits Basket has possibly the most deuteragonists in any manga that I've ever read. All the characters, not just the main one, have conflicts and stories, and are treated as whole persons, rather than being seen as only being there to support the main character (I hate it when secondary characters are treated like they have no lives of their own). Also, the plot gets very interesting about halfway through the story, and I definitely recommend reading it. You won't regret it. It might start out looking like your average shoujo manga, but it's really not.

Double Arts

Unfortunately it ended prematurely at only 23 chapters.

You can try Bloody Monday and it's sequel Bloody Monday 2.
The first one doesn't have romance, but the second has some developing romance (1st one is complete and 2nd is still in progress). It has some pretty awesome support characters on the protagonist's side.

Hmmm... I'm not quite sure I understand what exactly your looking for, but I think your looking for is stories with many layers of plots and secondary characters that are main characters in the subplots?
If I'm not wrong I've got a few to suggest...

Kateikyoushi Hitman Reborn!- There are a lot of characters with their own subplots. I'm mainly thinking of the antagonist/protagonist Mukuro who seems to match up to the definition of a deuteragonist character quite well.
Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro- Though I haven't completed it myself it does seem fit into your request. Don't be put off by the artwork though... it's a lot better than you'd suspect and really adds a lot to the manga... not sure if there is romance though, probably more just subtext.
Nabari no Ou- Has many different sub plots. Their are two romantic pairings as well.
S•A- The secondary characters sometimes become the main characters in their subplots, and at times the subplot almost seems to become the plot for a time as well...
Olimpos- I think this one fits quite well... no romance though. (except for maybe in the first chapter...)
Safe Again Today- This story shifts its focus from character to character, so it has quite a few subplots, and though it is sci-fi it doesn't get technical or anything. Doesn't really have romance, its more subtext.

I second Full Moon o Sagashite

I hope I helped!

I would say 20th Century Boys. There are some slight si-fi elements though, and the romance is only hinted (and rarely, at that.)

To Love-Ru
Maburaho
Code Geass
Bloody Monday
Bloody Monday 2

(I'm aware that Bloody Monday, Bloody Monday 2 and Code Geass we're mentioned but if I don't add them that just makes my list look pathetic)
