Korea is pretty well-known for their "webtoons/webcomics" as well (it's kind of like manga/manhwa on the web). From what I've seen, there are a LOT of great webtoons in Korea. They're really popular as well. Webtoons are usually ton in all color, which makes it pretty unique. And no, most of them aren't the usual cliche romance stuff.
Most of them deal with pretty unique topics.
It's not just "girl meets boy, boy meets girl, OMG ROMANCE"...I personally think these webtoons are like the biggest thing in the manhwa industry in Korea right now. So if you guys are going to talk about Korean manhwas, include webtoons in your topic PLEASE.

I think you're missing their point. They're telling you that your stereotype is redundant and is, therefore, invalid.
Anyway:
Personally, I think manga has smoother delivery. Their transitions are much more clever, clear, and much easier to understand than their Korean counterpart.
On top of that, when I read manhwa, the quality is usually horrendous, translations are terrible, only making the story seem even more cliche/corny.
Personally, I think manhwa is aimed for the younger, more innocent crowd. Or those who like exaggerated drama.
But please do keep in mind that I've only read romance manhwa. And maybe a little shounen.
Aside from that, I think manga is a lot more interesting.
From what I've read, the stories are more mature, tapping controversial and immoral subjects I've never read or could find in manhwa.

look at the chin! (or jaw?)
manhwa, especially the earlier ones, has character which their chin is huge.
and somehow, there are forced cuteness (if girl) or macho-ness (if man) in art. the art inconsistency. and filmsy plot at manhwa. they're greatly reduced lately, but for the earlier manhwa, they are obvious.

Aside that the authors are from Korea or Japan, there aren't any 'real difference'.
Though the authors from their corresponding country tend to draw a certain style more.

I tend to notice that the korean manhwa tend to be more detailed and has crisper art. Japanese manga, on the other hand, seems to get lazy from time to time, maybe that's just me. Personally, I kinda prefer manhwa over manga, Mainly cuz the art is more appealing to me, the story tend to be a bit more interesting, and also I am tired of Naruto and Bleach... lol.

this is how i see it
Korean comics
is very close to how the Chinese do their entertainment
big story
alot of forced and weird plots
lots and lots of plotholes
and overall good art
the japanese comics
not so big storys
not even close to the korean/chinese plothole level
overall simpel good art
and another major difference is the shoujo genre
to me korean shoujo manga is so offensive and degrading to woman [in general] that i cant see one reason to read it...girls seem so stupid one dimensional that it just pisses me off

In manga it depends on the genre.....

I also noticed that in a lot more action oriented manwha, people tend to die more often, permanently.

In the manwha characters looks like a freaking narco zombies with the bags under the eyes...-_- though it's more about shoujo ...and all men looks like women(in general)
Over all..u'll know that u're reading manwha the moment u start reading...even right after u see the title...they allways have stupid\weird titles(shoujo ones)....dunno how to explain this....but i can get that this is manhwa as soon as i read the title on the release page

You shouldn't judge Korean writing as a whole... when you are reading a page and one of the characters says something that feels out of place, there are HUGE chances it was a miss translation.
Then again a lot of stuff is bound to be lost in the translation.
Korean Comics for the most part are MUCH more detailed than Japs, however there is a big trend... Shoujo sucks!!! most Korean Shoujo is pumped out in great numbers and plots are silly at best... with Korean Comics, SHOJO is a genre you should avoid.

Plot: 2 (Draggy as hell... How many mangas out there you felt never dragged their plot around in order to keep going? yeah, that is what I thought)
Endings: 4
Characters: 4
Overrall: 3.25
Korean Comics:
Art:4
Plot: 4
Endings :2 (so many rushes, axes, hiatus... is just too much)
Characters: 3
Overrall: 3.25
So yeah, they have strong points, but I have found that mawha are better to read... is just that may lead to disappointment.
PS: as The guy pointed out, In manwha characters die... permanently, in your average shounen a kid that was talking to the hero in one panel is killed in a horrible way 3 pages ahead, something that NEVER seems to happen in that jap crap... Manwha knows we are SICK people and feeds us with what we want... Manga feeds us unreal crap and people that NEVER seem to die... EVER!!!

I have some really good manhwa that I have bought over the years, and they are pretty much like my other manga, except the way you read it. However, I have noticed that a lot of the manhwa in the internet tends to be the exaggerated type. You know where the plot has to involve seriously impossible scenarios where there's always a rich family who gets involved with a poor girl, someone always has to die or be seriously injured, they have tons of cliches and all the characters look the same aside from their hair color
...But, what I just wrote doesn't rlly answer the question..
If I compare a good manga and a good manhwa that are the same type of genre I would have to say that:
The manhwa doesn't concentrate as much on b/g when b/g it's not the main part of the page. When it comes to people they concentrate a lot on the face, more than manga- oh! everyone has 'big' eyes even guys. Also the artist seem to worry a lot about giving them high couture/ stylish clothes. Lastly I have seen more action comedy (as in the character behaving funny/weird) in manhwa
