I'm suprised no one threw out the term Affirmative action, cause that is probably what this was. Computer Programming seems like a male dominate field(I base this on nothing) and to meet a quota they hired the women. I mean if they just hired her for looks maybe you should of unbuttoned your shirt a little bit to show off you chest to improve your chances.

Woman always wanted equality, and they should have it. Not that I think woman weren't equal before.

But now, it's total double standard, if it's me up against another woman for a posistion in a male dominated field, the job usually goes to the woman.

I'm not saying woman aren't qualified for that position, but the one that applied with me clearly wasn't as qualified as me.

So I'm saying are we as a society so focused on "woman's rights" that men are being discriminated against?

This is probably because more women than men seem to be furthering their education these days. I know in many of my senior classes in college there was probably about 80% women and 20% men.

The business professional fields are going to be completely dominated by women I would say within the next 20 years. Add another 10-20 years and most of the upper management positions in most firms will be women. Around this time, if not earlier, I see politics starting to become dominated by women as well. Within the next 100 years or so (if humanity survives that long) I can see a complete reversal of the traditional gender roles.

I even read that more and more men are choosing to become stay at home dads and care for the children, something which only further supports my prediction.

i'm a college graduate, there is exactly 2 female in my programming classes.

The example I gave is just something I observed, nothing more. You can't get every job, truth be told wouldn't have took it even if they hired me.

As for woman dominating the field, probably not. The reason is something I can't really say on a forum or anywhere public.

But it will be more even.

Vanpaia has a point, women are playing a more dominate role in soiciety. Look there are 4 Justices of the Supreme Court, there could of been a female president or vice president. Women are weaseling in and aren't moving out, job competition will get tough.(no offense to the fairer sex)

Yes, there is a double standard. If there isn't a double standard for one thing, there is for another. That's just the way things roll, I suppose.
But when it comes to job/interviews/ and that whole schtick, qualifications (of course) are the most important, and if some douchebag hires some less-qualified person because of looks, 1) It shows just how shallow and idiotic this society is, and 2) Shows the manager/boss/whatever shouldn't really be qualified for his or her position for a mistake which he or she will most likely come to regret, in my opinion (Real life example of this, although she's no looker, IMHO, and my do-nothing-boss pretty much regrets it, but refuses to fire her. Stupid idiot that he is.)

@Wage Knight -- Probably shouldn't say this, cause I'm not sure if the information's correct, but I believe that Australia has had a female president before, at least once. But I don't remember if it's true or not XD. For the US though, I'd give it a 50-50% chance. When Sarah Palin ran, they were like, "NUUU, WE DON'T WANT A FEMALE PRESIDENT111!!!" -- Ah, Vice President, whatever. I heard this from a lot of people or they would always grunt whenever they heard her name (some, being my own family members...but I digress.)

Affirmative action doesn't mean a less qualified candidate will be chosen just because they're part of some minority. At least, that's not how it's supposed to work.

While there are some instances where feminism has been "taken too far" - why is it "okay" to make jokes about men, but not women, for instance? - the fact is, on average, women still don't make as much money as men do. Things aren't quite equal yet. They're improving, things are pretty good, but Western society isn't 100% equal yet, and we're still a hell of a lot better when it comes to equality between the genders than other parts of the world.

People didn't like Sarah Palin because they thought she was unqualified for the position (and an idiot), not because she was female.

I know affirmative action doesn't mean they just had out jobs cause you a minority, but if two similarly qualified canidates apply for the same job and one is a female which they happen to be in short supply of they will hire her to fill the quota. I accually don't know the reprecussions for not filling the quota I just know they have to atleast in colleges, I'm unsure of policies in the workplace.

I didn't want Sarah Palin as vice president, but if Hillary Clinton won the democratic nomination I wouldn't mind her wining the presidency.

True, she was/still is an idiot. But you never know, someone could've disliked her for the fact that she was female rather than an idiot, then again, I'm just assuming. Sexism is still alive and running (maybe not as much as it was, but probably still pretty potent...I don't really pay attention to it much, though.)

@Wage Knight -- I don't think anyone did except for John McCain who asked her to be his vice. And the miniscule amount of people who voted for her (I say miniscule only because I don't know the actual amount/percentage). I honestly don't care whose president, male or female, as long as they do their damned jobs.

I would mind Clinton, she went medieval on Bill's ass when the stuff went down, and that was just a little something something.

What would she do to the people in a recession like this?!

This...women are paid something like 70% as much as men for equivalent work. When the economy's bad, I would think that might make a difference in who's being hired.

Listen I don't want to have to defend I person I'm not entirely fond of, lets just leave it as she is kind of redneck. I mean she's got smarts it somethings but to take her all in at once you see her a dull blur of ignorance.

I've got to agree with Mams on this.

Also, I've seen people say there can't be sexism against men. Oh god, I laughed at them so much.

Then I realized they were serious and laughed even harder.
