I took a look at the top 5 fav manga's topic, and found that a lot of them are series that are still in progress or, in some cases, on hiatus. Now, its not that i mind, but i would really like a buncha series i can check out and finish completely all in one go, instead of having to wait for weekly chapters and such. So i was wondering, anybody know some really really good manga's that are completed, but not so well known because it completed too early & don't have a lot of people checking it out? You know, those little pieces of buried treasure that most people don't give the time to check out.
Some that i recommend which are completed and can be found on Lurk in irc, is: Arcana (cool ideas, slightly repetitve, but great artwork)
Kyou no Go no Ni<AKA: Today in Class 5-2> (strange artwork at times but funny and light-hearted)
Basilisk (interesting manga which reminded me of romeo & juliet circumstances)
I''s (excellent romance & drama manga, though I think the ending is a bit weak, the ride itself is just simply fantastic. The artwork is stunning too, truly great)
Depending on your tastes, you may or may not like some of these. Then again, you may find them to soon be personal favourites.

Wolverine - Snikt! An interesting take on the X-Men universe. Just one volume long, fully-coloured and drawn by (oh-my-god) Tsutomu Nihei. Reads from left to right though.
Black and White (Tekkon Kinkurito) Great stuff and only 3 volumes long. The artwork is very unusual, but I liked it (originality is always welcome). And Studio 4ºC is releasing a movie soon based on this manga.
Planetes Another great manga, 4 volumes. Great story, art, characters, everything. Anime that's based on it is also very good and adds some interesting stuff to it, so I would recommend both.

I'm a little shocked here, but I guess tastes differ... Bored after 50 episodes... Oh well.
The anime follows the manga with exceptional accuracy, btw. I'd say 95%.

EDIT: Sorry, just read op in more detail. Some of the mangas I've listed are quite well-known, but I'm sure there are at least one or two that you haven't heard of yet.
Hikaru no Go - You'd think a manga about a board game would be boring, but it's anything but.
Salad Days - I've seen it described as romance for guys, and it's true.
Rough - All hail Adachi!
Angel Sanctuary - I stayed away from this manga because I thought it would be about incest. I finally read it, and although there is incest, there's a lot more to it.
Katsu! - More Adachi power!
Slam Dunk - other than Hajime no Ippo, this is the best sports manga I've ever read.
Kodomo no Omocha - Kids are more mature than you think.
For You in Full Blossom - Great shoujo manga.
Rurouni Kenshin - Do I even need to say anything? Surely you've heard of it.
Love Hina - First manga I've ever read. I'm sure this needs no introduction also.
Jiraishin - One of the best seinen manga I've ever read.
Battle Angel Alita - Great shounen action manga. The ending is a bit rushed, but that's why you have GUNNM: Last Order.
Battle Royale - What would YOU do if you were thrown onto a deserted island with your classmates and ordered to kill each other to survive?
Yokohama Kaidaishi Kikou - Slice of life manga about an android. I can't explain why it's so good, it just is.
Emma - I just finished reading it, and it just feels like YKK to me, only set in the 19th century with romance thrown in.
Devil X Devil - Good manga, with battles between heaven and hell, shocking secrets, etc. Sort of like Angel Sanctuary.
Tokyo Crazy Paradise - Manga set in future tokyo, where rape in plain sight appears to be common place. Despite that, it's a pretty funny manga.
Aishiteruze Baby - Must... resist... cuteness...
Hana Yori Dango - One of the best shoujos I've ever read.
Death Note - It's pretty good, though I think it really goes downhill after the first arc.
Ichigo 100% - Harem manga, with just enough ecchi, comedy, and romance.
Pretty Face - Guy gets into an accident, wakes up to find his face is the same as his crush's.
Blue Heaven - By the mangaka of Jiraishin. Just as good, although much shorter.

wow lol, frustratedguy, that's a bit much there. But thanks for your input. Think you can narrow it down to about 3-5 that you really like and arn't as well known? Mostly anything that has little to no anime series/episodes made based on it is considered not too well known imo. This is just to simplify things, as im pretty sure a lot of people will look at that list and say "wow, too much for me" and leave a buncha series alone, which would be a shame if there are some really nice gems among the list.
I've linked up the manga's that i recommended for any1 having a hard time finding them. I really recommend I''s or those of you into romance drama that isn't exactly targeted towards a shoujo audience
thanks to everyone for their inputs so far, im checking out most of those recommended now.

Well, I like all the manga on that list. But if I had to choose five that were less well known, I'd guess they'll be:
Salad Days Kodomo no Omocha Jiraishin Yokohama Kadaishi Kikou Aishiteruze Baby

ah, those look great. My friend told me about Salad Days too, and i've been meaning to check it out, but most of those look rather interesting and seems like they'll be nice, long reads.
