Hey guys, well it has been a while since I have watched or read manga/anime. Anyways after reading/watching so many, I am just bored of the cliches, the never ending speeches about evil, friendship, willpower, cliche romance and so on.What I was hoping you guys could suggest to me was a mature anime that is able to bring out all kinds of emotions, something that doesn't have what I stated above where evil is so purely defined and characters are one dimensional as in the protagonist is a good guy, he can never do anything wrong, or even the ones where the protagonist was evil but now hez really good and now he will never harm a person anymore. I was hoping for an anime with characters who are complex and well balanced. Action would be good though not a must. Please though don't suggest slice of life animes, I find them boring.
To get some "popular" titles out of the way that may be suggested
I have watched the following already
Code Geass Ergo Proxy(for those of you who haven't already you should watch this one) Baccano Grave of the Fireflies Higashi no Eden Kara no Kyoukai Mobile suit gundam(almost all of them especially the newer ones) Phantom:Requiem of the phantom(loved this one) Speed Grapher Xam'd: Lost memories Baccano

Anime Crest of the Stars (one of my fav). Full Metal Alchemist Higurashi no Naku koro ni (if you're brave enough ). Mugen no Ryvius Chrno Crusade (both anime and manga, a little cliché but still a good read) Shingetsutan Tsukihime (ibidem). Noein (kind of)
But the fact you cited Code Geass (which disappointed me to the extreme) could be a sign that our tastes are not compatible, so I apologize in advance if they don't meet your expectations.
Manga/Anime Gunslinger Girl highly suggested for a mature read Shin Angyo Onshi Everything written by Urasawa Naoki, especially Monster. Monster is great so I'd start with this if you want a mature manga with complex characters. There are anime for all of them, but I specified manga for them since I didn't watch (or like at the same level) their anime.
Only manga Vinland Saga Vampire Juujikai Historie

The first anime I actually thought of TBH was Toradora!
Give it a try, you'll be pleasantly surprised...

Seconding:
Terra E (I highly recommend this. It is absolutely amazing.) Mushishi (A very enjoyable episodic drama.) Princess Tutu (Once you get past the first few episodes, it has a surprisingly excellent plot.)
Suggesting:
Wolf's Rain (You've probably seen this already, but if you haven't, it is absolutely amazing.) Bokurano (This can be very mature, and just... ;A; It's heartrending.) Natsume Yuujinchou (A thought-provoking and emotional slice-of-life/supernatural series.) Ghost Hunt (Episodic, but enjoyable.) Himitsu: The Revelation (NO, SERIOUSLY. THIS. ;A; It's awesome.)

Can't believe no one has recommended Planetes yet... (by the same guy who did Vinland), both an anime and manga exist.
Some people mentioned Haibane Renmei and Dennou Coil, I also second their nomination .

Studio Ghibli / Hayao Miyazaki films: Princess Mononoke Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind Spirited Away
Action (anime): Death Note - Don't know if you've watched it... but lots of shades of gray here... Noir - mixed feelings for this one... I liked the stylized gun sequences, but the plot left me wanting more...
Totally seconding: Monster and FMA: Brotherhood.
Although I love these, they are slice-of-life... so you might not like it -- Spice and Wolf -- Holo (the wolf) is such a tease... a lots of dialogue... but the chemistry between "Spice" and "Wolf" is amazing. Honey and Clover -- yes I know this is Josei, but give this a try... it hits home... and there are arcs told from a male's point of view (plot gets going after episode 3).
Seconding these slice-of-life (give it a try, honestly) -- Mushi-shi -- especially this one... Natsume Yuujinchou -- I like this a lot, but it's a softer version of Mushi-shi...

You could try Shiki. It's nearly completed. Genji Monogatari Sennenki (completed).

As reid1 said, having you put Code Geass as an example makes me hesistant to actually suggest something, but I also liked Baccano, Reqiuem of the Phantom and Ergo Proxy so maybe you'll find something to your tastes here: (I didn't read through all the other suggestions, so if something has been mentioned already I'll just second it) Bakemonogatari - light on the action side but has interesting characters and unique visualisation (IMO) Noir - If you liked Requiem of the Phantom, there's a high chance you'd like this too Black Lagoon - I bet you know this one already, if you liked Baccano this is for you. The Twelve Kingdoms - one of the best character development if you ask me
