Hello again all. I come back to the forum today to ask once again for some help. This time I'm looking for a manga with a main character who is similar to Horo from Spice & Wolf. There's something about her that I just find attractive and exciting. I've been wondering if there are any other characters out there like her, so I thought I'd ask all of you for help once again. So if anyone has any ideas, please help me. Thanks very much in advance. ^__^

I know what you mean! For some reason, I'm so drawn to her... if I were a guy, I'd totally go "ga-ga" all over her.

Anyways, I don't have any suggestions because she's the only one I've encountered in my short/limited list, but these forums might help start you off:

Carefree heroine? -- the person who started this thread was also fascinated with Holo.

Intelligent female leads -- this thread also has links to other "strong female" threads. smile Enjoy!

Give up, Horo is unique. laugh (oh god, you remember me that 3rd novel is almost out, waiting is killing me)

Still, the only girl I can compare her to is probably Lafiel from Crest of the Stars (better watch the anime than the manga, or even better buy the novel since it's available in English Crest of the Stars (novel)) because they're both extremely capable (with a hint of arrogance) and kind of clueless about certain specific situations (since Lafiel never set foot on land and Horo never lived with humans). And well, since Horo is a goddess, you at least need a princess (Lafiel) to stand to her awesomeness. Also they share a similar love for a specific part of their body (tail for Horo and hair for Lafiel). But don't expect the same "cuteness" from Lafiel, she doesn't need that to have an edge against the male lead of the story. smile wink grin
A more "elastic" suggestions could be Triela from Gunslinger Girl, but you actually have to read a lot of this manga to see a resemblance (and I can't guarantee that you find them similar like me).

Edit: I just discovered that if you go on Crest of the Stars page the first recommendation is Spice & Wolf, so someone else share my opinion about them. bigrazz

That "something about her" might be a little hard to interpret for someone other than yourself (you can always find some similarities between two characters), anyway I'll trysuggesting some:
Kodomo no Jikan - although an elementary student, I think there are some similarities...
Aflame Inferno - Gehenna probably, haven't read enough of it to truly decide though
At least for me, the next one is pretty accurate:
Honeymoon Salad - his exgirlfriend IMO, but I haven't read enough of that yet too

Well, see, that's the thing. It's so hard to put that "something about her" into words. It's like her carefree attitude and complete disregard to those around her, but at the same time it's the relationship she has with Lawrence, that "I may seem like I don't care, but I really do deep down, it's just embarrassing to show it."
It's like she's the perfect mix of Kuudere, Tsundere, and Yandere. She has that "I don't give a ****" attitude from the Kuudere side. On top of that she has that adorable exterior, but inside she's sinister and manipulative, which of course is from the Yandere. But beneath that she really is sweet and does care, which of course comes from the tsundere.
I'm not sure I described that well enough, but I hope someone else out there gets what I'm trying to say, words just don't do it justice.
Maybe reid1 is right, Horo is just too unique.

Calling her a mix of cliche otaku labels like Kuudere, yandere, and tsundere doesn't make her sound unique. But I know what you're saying, and I agree she is very unique and also realistic. However I think Kodomo no Jikan and Crest of the Stars are kind of good suggestions because the characters are sort of similar.

yes, well now you see my problem. The only way I can explain her to someone who doesn't already know her would be with the horribly cliche terms, which is why it was so hard to put into words. She has so many layers of depth, that makes her like the most realistic character I have encountered (except for the being a god part).
I feel what makes her unique is the fact that she doesn't fit into any of the standard cliche types. Most characters fit into one of the categories, even if it is only minutely. Horo has bits and pieces of all, just like a real person would.
It's hard finding similar characters to the perfect character.

Yeah... it's hard finding a character like Holo... so this suggestion might be a complete failure, but:

Zakuro from Otome Youkai Zakuro's pretty awesome. Though not much has been scanlated yet... the anime is currently ongoing, so you can watch it and determine for yourself what you think about her character. biggrin
