best mecha (non gundam): code geass

Agreed. I don't really read or watch much mecha but Code Geass would have to be my definite favorite out of the few that I have watched.

I usually get bored really quickly with mecha, but Escaflowne and Rahxephon are my favorite among those I watched entirely. There was another one but I can't recall the name..

1. Mobile Suit Gundam SEED & GS: Destiny
2. RahXephon
3. Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch & R2
4. Macross Frontier
5. Heroic Age
6. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
7. Soukyuu no Fafner
8. Mobile Suit Gundam Wing & Endless Waltz
9. Full Metal Panic! & The Second Raid + Fumoffu
10. Eureka Seven
------------------------
11. Mobile Suit Gundam 00 & Second Second season
------------------------

1. I really like GS because of the great storyline, characters, good drama + the added romance (I never seen anything older then Wing so GS rocks my world. GS biggrin estiny was really bad though.
The serie focus is also on character relations but the Gundams capability play a important part in the story itself.

2. RahXephon had best genre combo in any serie I ever seen. Drama, Tragedy, Action, Mecha, Romance + Great story.

3. Code Geass had an awesome story and I really love the drama/tragedy. Mecha action was awesome but the presence of mecha action was reduced in second season. The anime focus point is its main character and his actions.

4. Macross Frontier was the first Macross I ever seen. What really set it apart for me from most mecha was the music space opera theme. I really like how they mix great music with great action scene's. Romance, drama and tragedy was also done really well. The story line was so-so but love the character development.

5. Heroic Age was also a unique story in my opinion. Although it has mecha the main character doesn't use any mecha but has something similar. (I thought it was really hard to describe why I liked this anime so I left it)

6. Probably one of the most craziest series. When I started watching this I got addicted right away and watch the entire serie in one day. like I said its crazy and really fast paced in my opinion. Has some romance, tragedy and great action (which is also really funny bigrazz ).

7. Also one of my favo mecha because it has some unique elements in the story, interesting concept overall.
Again this has some good tragedy and drama in it (the story mostly about the drama) action was oke but nothing really spectacular in my opinion.

8. A classic anime in my opinion GW has really great action it focus is also on character development a lot next to the political story which it has.

9. A very funny anime I would say the mecha action is average compare to other mecha series.
It doesn't really bring anything unique to the serie its also a lot about character relations.
Fumoffu on the other hand is more like a spin-off season which is all about comedy and is in my opinion one of the best comedy anime's I ever seen.

10. Been a will since I have seen this but I am currently re-watching it. The mecha action and the mecha's them-self are really unique but till half the serie not really the focus point the serie is a lot about character relations and eventually later on the storyline itself (Which didn't interest me a lot even though it had a creative and unique story).

11. Although not in my top 10 I thought I should mention it. Gundam 00 start off good in my opinion but became boring later on. mecha action was really good, love the animation.
No repeated usage of same animation like Gundam SEED but the 00 storyline was just to easy to guess what was gonna happen next later on.

I loved Code Geass and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.

Eureka 7 was alright as well. I can't think of any others at the moment, ah I can't think today...

To me the best mecha series has to be Rahxephon. It was so perfectly done. The music really fits well with the setting. Although the plot was confusing at first i watched it more than twice to understand it a bit more and it makes perfect sense. Also, I have never seen a mecha where romance plays a vital role and it does not suck. It is probably not only the best mecha but maybe one of the best anime.

Eureka 7
Full Metal Panic
Code Geass
Neon Genesis Evangelion

For mecha manga I like Bokurano
