Quote from Shibuya_Yuuri
Where I live it's not Santa who comes to your home on Christmas, but the "Christkind" (=the infant Jesus), often pictured as an Angel with a golden aura and hair and a white dress. But we celebrate another holiday besides Christmas which is called "Nikolaus"-Day. Like Santa, Nikolaus is an old, tall man with a long white beard and a jute sack in which keeps presents for all good children. It's celebrated on the 6th of December and you usually get your boots full of sweets and things like that. Nowadays Nikolaus is dressed in a red gown (like Santa) but traditionally he was a bishop so he was dressed in white with a bishop's cap.

The first time I remember being told about Nikolaus coming to our house I must have been about 5 years old. I clearly remember that day, because I was really really scared since Nikolaus had a grumpy old helper called "Knecht Ruprecht" who hid bad children with a birch. Isn't it mean to tell children something like that? I mean, which child is always nice and well-behaved? I even had nightmares about Knecht Ruprecht.

I'm sorry if I told you things you already knew, but I'm not sure if Nikolaus and Knecht Ruprecht are known in other countries, too, or if there's even a holiday on the 6th of December.

Wait, what are you telling about Nikolaus, Knecht Ruprecht and Christkind? I even knew from them before Santa. I donĀ“t remember if i ever believed in Santa but i believed in Nikolaus. Nikolaus and Santa are pictured very similar, but the tale about Nikolaus is actually better than the one about Santa

Yeah, I like the tale about Nikolaus, too. He came to the poor secretly throwing gold coins into their windows at night. I think, there was something with a ship he rescued, too, and food he gave to the poor ... but I can't remember.

I don't know if there's a similar tale about Santa. If anybody knows, please tell me.

When I was two, my family moved to Mexico for a year for my dad's work. We lived in a really poor part of the country, and my parents didn't want my siblings and I to think that the other kids didn't get as many presents as us because they were naughty, so they told us the truth. My older siblings had believed in Santa, but since I was two when they told us, I never did.

I kind of wish I had, though.

No, I never believe he existed.

I'm christian, but in every christmas I never got any present, and my parents never bother to put a christmas tree in our house, they never bother to tell me the story about St. Claus either, plus my house doesn't have chimney.

Anyway, the country where I lived, most of the people there are muslim. So I never seen someone dressed as a Santa, except in the film (Home Alone).

LOL this thread reminded me of how a few days ago my little brother got really angry at my mom, because she told him she had already sent one of the many letters he had supposedly written for Santa Claus. Apparently he no longer wanted the present he had written about there laugh

As for me, yes, I did believe. However, I don't remember being surprised when I found out he was not real.
