The main character must be male and very good at a sport (doesn't matter which sport).
I have already read Prince of Tennis, so please do not mention it. I have also heard of eye shield 21 and slam dunk.
NO ROMANCE OR ECCHI PLEASE! (though I don't mind if there is a very subtle amount of romance...I just don't want it to have a sort of romantic atmosphere the whole time)
I REALLY liked Prince of Tennis, so if you know about anything similar then mention it!!!

Slam Dunk, Ookiku Furikabutte (He's good, but doesnt urm, really know it, suffers from a self-esteem issue), Makoto Call! (has some romance, but doesnt really get into the storyline much).

Apart from the ones you've mentioned I can only remember of Major. It's one of my favourite sports manga. However I don't think the manga is completly scanlated, even though it's already completed. But if you're interested there are six anime seasons that follow closely the life of Honda Goro and baseball, from childhood to adulthood. I think this one is really worth it. I've been addicted to it since I watched it...

One Outs (sport - baseball). However, this is very much unlike the other titles that have been mentioned here (or indeed, any other sports manga out there). The protagonist is an excellent pitcher, but his actual talent is in manipulating the opponents into doing exactly what's necessary for his own team to attain victory. This manga is really very interesting from a psychological point of view; so even though it's nothing like PoT, I still think you should try it.
Zero (MATSUMOTO Taiyo) - Another interesting take on the mind-set of a professional sportsman - in this case, a boxer.
About one of the titles ajcoolim107 has suggested; it's actually 15: Meisetsu Kougyou Koukou Rugby Bu. I second this, by the way.

Hikaru no Go is very good, if you are willing to consider go a "sport". There is no romance at all.
