I am looking for a good action (preferably shounen) manga based on the classic chinese novel The Water Margin. I do not care if it is based loosley or tightly, but it should hopefully cover the whole story.

P.S. The Water Margin is also known by the titles Outlaws Of The Marsh and All Men Are Brothers.

P.P.S. If not already listed in the encyclopedia please tell me how many volumes there are.

Preferably? You sound like mangas based on The Water Margin are so popular that you can even choose which version you want to read.

And about your petition, the only manga I'm aware of is one adaptation that Mitsuteru Yokoyama did like, 40 years ago. I have no idea how many volumes are out there (or if it's even possible to get ahold of such a "classic".)

EDIT: Oh, I almost forgot about the Suikoden franchise. As you may know, Suikoden is loosely based on The Water Margin. But as far as I know, only some games were adapted into mangas ( Suikoden, Suikoden III and Suikoden V )

Uhm, there are several manga that actually base on some classic Chinese novels and some base on Jin Yong & Gu Long's (wiki if you don't know who they are smile wink grin ) novels as well. However, those are not very popular in manga community and it's hard to find them scanlated. As far as I know, the fairly popular manga of this type is "Ryuuroden" (Legend of the Dragon Son) which base on "The romance of the Three Kingdom" (aka "San Guo Zhi").

From what I have been made aware of from at ANN it is 8 volumes long which makes me wonder how they couldget the whole story in, even loselly based, in just 8 volumes.

What about Demon City Hunter by Hideyuki Kikuchi and Shinichi Hosoma?
