Manga creator Takehiko Inoue confirmed on his website on Monday that his Vagabond series will remain on indefinite hiatus for the forseeable future. Inoue had announced in August that a chapter of the historical manga would not run in Kodansha's Morning magazine due to his health. While he reported later that month that the brain and heart tests revealed that he was fine, he continued to rest his body and delayed Vagabond's return past its scheduled return date of September 2.

In his latest news update, Inoue explained the hiatus will not end until he regains his enthusiasm for working on the series. He apologized to Vagabond readers, but his plans for the series are in the air for now.

Inoue has been drawing Vagabond in Morning since 1998, and Kodansha published the 33rd compiled volume in Japan in May. Viz Media published the 33rd volume in North America in October. Viz also publishes Inoue's Slam Dunk and REAL manga.

This is really bad news. I don't mind it being on a hiatus for awhile. The only thing actually bothers me is that he might drop it? Damn.

I really, really hope he will continue this manga and finish it soon. Since I read Slam Dunk I've been waiting with patience for him to finish this so I could read it in one go.

I thought it's gonna end soon.

And concerning what he said about his health problem. I can say that I've known many people who had issues with SOMETHING that at first couldn't be exactly pointed out through examinations. They apparently had such problems from overworking and doctors told them to go on vacations (one had problems with his hand - a programmer, had to take month-long, work-free brake; the second one is an electrician and he had to take a 2 months brake from work because he started having problems with everything possible).
Stress is sometimes helpful but on a long rate it can really kill you - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stress_%28biology%29#General_ada ptation_syndrome . So it's best not to underestimate it.

Oh God I hope this doesn't end up as another Shamo-- another incredible epic stopped short because the mangaka can't grow up and just start working on it again. But I guess in Inoue's case it's a quasi-respectable reason; don't want him half-assing it, now.

Yeah, he should just take it easy...
And I know what you mean about the stress, a girl I knew was recently put into a coma because she was having a lot of health issues due to stress and nobody could find out what was the cause of it. I don't know the full detail but it just proves stress can do a lot to people

It's just a bloody shame that he stopped right in the Musashi vs Kojiro arc. The entire manga seems like one epic build-up for their bouts. All of Musashi's training and experience against Kojiro's equal training and experiences. Guuuuhhhhhh dead

It's been a year so is there any update on whether or not vagabond will continue?

It's a shame he hasn't written anymore. I need this guy to finish this last arc at least if he's thinking of ending it or some ass kickings will be handed out accordingly. Seriously it was getting so good!
