So, I'm a little tired of reading yaoi and want to branch out to different types of manga. Where better to begin than old shoujo?

Specifically, I'm looking for shoujo manga with the theme of 'idol' that were produced pre-2000. Preferably something from the 90s with an artstyle similar to that of Twinkle Twinkle Idol Star, which is a nice balance between old and new shoujo. But I'll take any shoujo that happened pre-2000. I don't want it to be too long so no incredibly huge epics. No ecchi or excessive fanservice, please.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Try Kodocha the main character is a idol. If I'm wrong sorry it's been like 7 years since I've read it. ^_^

My friend owns all of the Kodacha manga (and most of the anime) but I never read past the first volume. I think it's time to give this series another go, I've always been a fan of the artwork.

I remember buying the first volume of Mink a few years ago (can't remember if I still have it or not) and really enjoying it. It really embodies the theme of girly idol shoujo. I'll try to track down the remaining volumes if I can (if not, I'll consult the scans). Does anyone know if the volumes of Mink are out of print or not?

Great suggestions. Any more?
