What was the WORST job you ever had?

Name the place(If its not too personal)

In Describe what made it the worst job you've ever had?

-Marshalls

-because i just so happen to work at one in a big city area, my marshalls recieves more merchandise and is as big as a k-mart. however because it is in such a busy area, we recieve alot of customers and ultimately this leads to alot of mess. They divide a little bit of people into areas to clean up and keep most of the workers on the registers. and let possible 0-2 people in each department, and if no one is in a department, they will give you an extra department. maybe you havent been to a really messy messy store like ours but its like a jungle, and we work extremely hard to pick up after customers and 99.9% of the time we never get out at the scheduled time due to too much to pick up after. and the worst part of it all is its $7.25/per hour. If you miss one little detail in cleaning up, a manager will call a meeting about how bad of a job we are doing. They give you probably between 10 hrs a week because they are so overstaffed, which contradicts why so many departments never have employees to watch over. if you ask for a scheduled time to work they will tell you they can work with you but eventually give you the most random hours to work. we fail every audit test since 1980. my hiring manager just quit last week because he was unhappy. 5 people are/have quiting this week. they always mess up payroll and end up underpaying you. they call you to do favors on your lunch break and if you dont your in for alot of complaining.
....all for 7.25 an hour...

worst job of my life...
which is why as of january first, i quit!

now i have shared my story, tell me about your worst jobs ever?

I assisted with Taekwondo lessons teaching little kids, and I really dislike kids...
I hated that job.
But other people might find that fun.

Naturally, the worst job a westerner can have is not having a job.
Those 2 hours of annoyance you spend at work can't compare
to the permanent annoyance you have at home when you cannot
buy or pay anything. Sure if mom pays and feeds, it is not that bad,
but you don't ever get a new phone or PC that way.

I am content with any job I do. I don't get pissed easily and
being annoyed just increases my pace.

The worst I had was working as a marshall at a run. Obviously the roads were closed, but I still had people driving through the barriers or complaints that they were late to work. It was the weekend so I also had people driving up to me asking how'd they get to the rubbish tip on many occasions (then they'd shout their mouths off if they didn't get their way).

Society today has this notion that further education/great academics can pave the way to a potentially high earning profession. Back in school there was this supply teacher who kept bleating on about his PhD - as a mean of justifying how below him that job was? - never did he think he'd end up teaching a bunch of secondary school kids who never gave him the time of the day. I did feel a little sympathy for him. Only a little.

Working special events (concerts, sports games, etc). I worked mostly as a cashier.. and dealing with the sheer volume of rude people just broke me. My fuse was short already, but that job made me nearly homicidal. I also worked long hours. On public holidays I worked 15 hours for 1.5Xwage, but still hectic. Also I'm sent out to concert halls that were so far from where I lived and was scheduled there the next morning after finishing a shift at 1 or 2 am... I might as well have slept there.

Engineering manager. Still am.

The pay is good, but it's 70-80 hours a week. This is on top of other responsibilities unrelated to this day job.

Once in a while, I procrastinate and laze away to regain my sanity, like I'm doing now. This is all knowing that the work will still end up catching back to me.

I work at a call centre for incoming cable repair. Charter cable to be exact. The worst cable company ever. I get tons of pissed of idiots calling in because there "cable done broke" charter mostly devices the deep south USA so I get the heavy accents and I swear to god most of them calling in are brain dead. The south isn't stupid but I'm pretty sure charter customers are.

Worst job?
Cashier. Hands down.
Try working in a in a snobby neighbourhood, tip-toeing around these people's needs and wants, trying to guess what on earth goes on in their heads, because if something (joshforbid) doesn't match their expectations - it's your fault.
If something is missing from the store - it's your fault and you have to tell the manager to have it in stock.
If a price tag doesn't match - it's the end of the world.
You have to know everything, because if you don't - what are you even doing there if you can't do your job properly?
You work too fast. You work too slow.
You have to do everything from bagging their stuff to making sure everything around you is clean even if there's a gazillion people in line throwing papers and garbage all over the place.
You have to have change for everyone, even though you're not a bank and there's only a limited amount of go around.
You have to know every person that lives around and make them feel special, that you know what they want and what they need.
You have to stay quiet when they insult you - no talking back.
You have to sit through every day with people thinking you're no different than the cash register, and that you're free game. If not a register yourself, then some sort of prostitute.

And the cherry on top - the pay.
You get minimum wages for doing things that don't even apply to your job's description, which is scanning things and charging costumers.
In certain places, it's not even a part time job like it pretends to be.
You work 50 hours a week and if you're especially unlucky, add around 20+ hours of commute each week.

If somebody offers you being a cashier in a chain-store, run for the hills.

True. I would rather be poor than take a chain-store cashier job. Have tried to be a cashier in a hobby store, though. That was kind of nice.

Worst job? Worked as a bartender/waitress at a restaurant. I don't really have anything against the job. It was the employer that sucked. Often held parties with over a hundred guests (note; with three course dinner), where I was the only waitress... Oh, and I was the dishwasher too. I often had shifts of twelve hours without break or time to sit down, let alone eat. Minimum wage, tips weren't the norm and I was completely defeated the next day. Never again. none

I tried both cash register for a chain store and waitress before... I think we all should do that at least once in our lives, so we know how tough and suck ass it is to do that job.

I have friends that volunteer to serve tables. Apparently they like it and think it's less stressful.

I worked for a clothing store before, and the manager kept telling me to buy the store's clothes to wear, while the price tags were more than anything I could afford. I was working to have money, not to spend money! Then she cut my hours, and put up a hiring post; when I asked for more hours, she said we're overstaffed (?!). I quit after that.

During my time as a waitress, the restaurant owner & manager were nice to me (thank goodness!). However, the customers could be horrible. They'd have a group of 15+ people, and at the end of the meal, there was a 2 dollar tip. Wow!

I worked as a Resident Assistant at a Rehab Center. I took care of people who were having mental challenges and developmental issues. We had to deal with personal fluids (drools, snots, etc.), personal care, invaded personal space and all sorts of weird stuffs. It was the best job I've had, but I saw people walked out on the job before. A lot of people did, actually. So there.
