Hello!

I've recently taken a liking to manga filled with action, where the main character is a straight up badass, sometimes even merciless. I also would like it to have romance. However, the romance isn't obvious nor is it the main point of the storyline. Something epic and psychological is a hugeeeee plus as well!
It's not entirely necessary, but I would like it if the setting took place in relatively modern times.

Two really good examples I just read are Akumetsu and Wolf Guy - Ookami no Monshou. The action is bloody and gory and there's killing going on everywhere, but I love how they have their humorous moments.
Others would include Alive: Saishuu Shinkateki Shounen, Kiseijuu, and 7 Seeds.

Unfortunately, I'm really picky about the artwork. I enjoy the artwork from the examples mentioned above, but not too big a fan of old-ish art or that that looks like it belongs in a shoujo manga.

No yuri, yaoi, shonen ai, or shoujo ai please. I don't mind ecchi.

Sorry for being so specific, but please help me out. I only have a couple days of winter break left, and I want to utilize this time as effectively as possible, lol.

Gantz (which I found on my own) and Jackals were EXACTLY what I wanted to read.
Are there any others like that? They're bloody with gore and limbs flying everywhere, but do have that touch of romance and the kind of art that I'm looking for.

I can reccomend Until Death Do Us Part
Got a lot of action but not much blood i think, but still the guy is a baddass blind swordman. Cliche? not really.

The title kinda tricky but i assure you no cheesy romance there whatsoever lol. In fact you will be left rooting for it.

Perhaps you would like Meteor Methuselah... and I haven't finished it, but Ga-rei is good too.

I initially wanted to suggest Dogs: Bullets & Carnage, but it doesn't have romance (it's still very awesome nonetheless).

MIZUKAMI Satoshi's newer series pretty much has everything you want.

Well, there's no main character more badass that Guts from Berserk, so that's certainly one to read if you're after gory action.

Angel Heart
Gokusen
Samurai High School

And I strongly second Until Death Do Us Part

B-Eyes. I debated about this one, because when I checked MU says it's shoujo, but I think it fits your request pretty well nonetheless.

Vagabond for sure.

Code Breaker for sure. psychological, with romance and tons of action. The male lead is the definition of merciless.
