I am looking for love stories that make your heart go "doki doki". I'm not looking for this to happen throughout the whole manga, but I want to know the mangas that made your heart go DOKI DOKI and you could just FEEL IT.

This doesn't even need to be a love story. For example, Ruroni Kenshin made me go DOKI DOKI towards the end of the (anime) series. I think he was fighting or something but I remember going "wow now that's a hero".

I just started reading Glass Mask and after
Spoiler (highlight to view)
Matsumi sees that Maya kept a purple rose petal from her first fan as her precious treasure (which, of course, was from HIM). The man that was with Matsumi says "Wow I've never seen Matsumi-san smile like that".
Cuz he's obviously in love and it's so sweet cuz he's well, him and that's never happened to him before. Anyway it made my heart go Doki Doki hardcore and that was what caused me to start this thread.

I prefer to stay away from hentai, yaoi or yuri.

Thanks!

I keep pushing people to read The Scarlet Chair (Hiiro no Isu) by Midorikawa Yuki, and for good reason! I know the beginning (first volume-ish?) may be slow, but believe me, Midorikawa Yuki is a master of subtlety, and everything will build up before you even know it. It definitely made my heart go, as you say, "doki doki", so hopefully you'll give it a chance. ;-)

Fruits Basket for sure. That manga plays with your heart so much.

Btw, I love Rurouni Kenshin!

um i have to say Skip Beat!
this manga has lots of cute & funny moments in it but it also has scenes that just make your heart pound. Some are romance scenes, some are sad, suspense, etc...

Ditto. I know you said a manga that doesn't make your heart go doki doki throughout the series, but Fruits Basket is just that.

For me it was Major that made me feel that way. I watched all 6 seasons of the anime in one go. The best one week of my otaku life!

BTW, after reading your title post, I just cannot help myself from hearing this song:

Fuwa Fuwa Time bigrazz

Everything that comes to my mind now are romance^^"
I second Dengeki Daisy! I fell in love with this manga when I read the second volume because it just
Watashi ni xx Shinasai! makes my heart go doki doki all the time>.< It's one of the VERY few shoujos where I actually feel the romance and love it^^
Then Hatsukoi Limited is the same as Watashi ni xx Shinasai... It's ecchi but the love stories are what it's mainly about and they give me the same feeling as Watashi ni xx Shinasai^^

But I don't know many manga that fit what you're searching for^^" And that's also just me own opinion^^"

Definitely Dear Green. I was like, OMFG The guy has loved her ever since. It was so cute my heart went doki doki after that. Also, Yotsuba&!'s cuteness will make you bleed rainbows.Others: Rensou no Aria,Purikyuu and My boy x My love. Fairy tail, because some scenes are really ama-a-zing and i like that they have strong bonds as friends.

Thanks everyone for your replies, and to the ones that are yet to home.

I love Skip Beat! That's my favorite current manga!! Kyoko is so funny and heartwarming. Watching her struggle with her feelings and the men in her life struggle with theirs definitely makes me go Doki Doki. I also read Fairy Tale and like that series. It has Doki Doki moments kinda like in One Piece. Luffy and Natsu are similar types of heroes, the goofy strong kind that keeps on surprising you.

I watched the Fruits Basket anime and really liked it, how different is the manga?

As for the other suggestions, I am definitely going to read them!! I'm sorry to see that a lot of them are oneshots or few volumes.

Keep 'em coming! biggrin

As far as Fruits Basket goes:

The anime pretty accurately covers the first few volumes of the manga (though I would start at the beginning, for there are some things it leaves out). After that, it keeps going, the story developing much more depth and complexity in reference to the character's relationships. There are many many many more moments in the manga that will make your heart go "doki doki", and it becomes really interesting as well as emotional.

If you've only seen the anime, then you should for sure read the manga. I think you'd love it.

Tugs at (my) heart-strings "doki-doki" (happiness/sadness/catharsis) --

Fruits Basket <== ZOMG... manga >>> anime... hands down. This is a must-read! Prepare yourself with a tissue box around the last 1/3 of the series!!!

Honey and Clover (though, I watched the anime... *sniffles) This can be hit-or-miss (major HIT for me). I think I appreciate this story a lot because it centers around college-life and life-after-college... so... good for those recent graduates or in uni at the moment. biggrin

Hanatsukihime was surprisingly touching... I did not expect to use several tissues when reading this (particularly the last half).

Natsume Yuujinchou!!! I'm surprised no one has mentioned this yet! I watched the anime, and I cried... oh I cried buckets (for episode 2... and 8... and other ones I can't recall). Totally recommend the anime!!!

24 Colors had a very soft quality to it...

One-shots
Bus Hashiru and Nanairo Sekai (especially that LAST story: Refrigerator Chocolate) are two wonderful volumes with nice one-shots in a compilation. Oh, and Kimi wa Boku no Taiyou was very nice too... gaaah... SAHARA Mizu is insanely talented in the "tugs-at-your-heart-strings" story-telling.
Hotarubi no Mori E (title story... 2nd one I believe) was very, very nice.
Hidarite no Love Letter, Forever Honey and Nonchan to Watashi were very nice as well... (if you liked Nonchan to Watashi, I suggest you read the YOSHINO Aki's other works like Yuru Koi -- she writes really soft, romantic stories).

If you want "doki-doki" moments of the romance (sexual tension) variety, do let me/us know. biggrin
