I usually buy ones that I can't find raws of or the series is really good that I'd want to buy the raw just to have it.

Got 46 manga volumes altogether. (Only the raws)
My eng collection.. About half that.

Thanks to a bookstore I found that sells 2nd hand manga that is in top condition.. Some are almost brand new, going only for a $1 to $4.50. That store is gonna increase my collection ^_^

Yeah, always. My Japanese collection is about 400+ volumes (my English collection is about a 1/4 of that). I like having physical evidence that I enjoy manga, and for whatever reason I really like manga tankoubon design. I also buy artbooks.

I used to buy my tanks at anime conventions, but since I don't go to those anymore I mostly shop online. There are too many sites to name, but my favorites are Sasuga Japanese Bookstore, JPQueen, and beNippon.

Quote from alexpwnsjoo
But most of the time I just read 'em at the bookstore biggrin

I actually loath people who do this. I go into a store with a list of the manga I have in my wallet(so I know which ones not to get), and a list of the ones I want(Jojo, Gintama, Berserk, Fairy Tail, VizBig editions, the last Battle Royale big book), then I go and find one I want to spend my coupon on, and voila, it's creased and the spine is broken cause some hobo sat around reading it in a bookSTORE instead of a library. So I'm out the book I want, the store is out of a sale cause they allow people to treat a store like a library, and there are no other manga I want that they have in new condition that I don't already have, but I still need to validate parking and need to get something because parking in la costs as much as a book.

So don't be a hobo and read in a bookstore, go read in a library, and if they don't have it there, request it.

I'd rather buy manga than anime, since the original author (hopefully) gets more money from the sale of the manga than the sale of the anime. Plus I can read them again, lend them out to my brothers or my students (I have 2 boxes full of manga that students pour over, and some take one a night to read...I teach math and have to have a class library, and for some reason no one ever takes my Asimov or Tolkien, or Ender or Eragon books to read...).

dude why does it matter if its creased or not? its just gonna get creased when you read it. if u just want it for display thats defeating the purpose of a BOOK! An reading in bookstores is fun~ esp. when there is a starbucks inside! eyes so cha! who cares.

I have to agree with Sijy on the creased issue. I can't stand them have creases in them, its just annoying. I like to know i'm the first to read it. I don't tend to get creases in them once I'm read them anyway.

On topic I tend to buy rather than download. Though i think i've got more downloaded stuff than actual volumes, and those are mostly stuff they haven't licensed yet.

I've got about just over 300 english ones at the moment. Don't have any Japanese ones since I can't read Japanese...

It matters because you're affecting the condition of a product that you aren't going to buy. If you don't care about the creases or whatever, just buy it from a used bookstore, but typically if you're willing to pay the extra money it costs to purchase from a bookstore, you want a product that's in good condition.

One of the many reasons I either buy online or from Kinokuniya, who takes the initiative to shrinkwrap everything themselves.

I like the shrink wrap, but it gets a little annoying in case you want to check something quickly to make sure it's the magazine/book you want ^^;;
*hates taking it to the counter to ask them if they can open it and then not buying it >.>*

I own some japanese volumes of manga, but no english volumes. My latest buys are volumes 5-16 of Overdrive and 4-7 of Crossover, in japanese, but sadly I'm missing the last volume of Overdrive, volume 17, so I'm still hanging on how it ends haha.

I only own about 50 volumes of manga, but I've read hundreds upon hundreds of series online. Since most of said series didn't make much of an impression/weren't licensed, I only own as much as I have right now. Online reading is like a spring-board for me. If there is a series I like enough to read over and over, then I will go all out and buy anything that I can find for it. I've always been picky, though, so my collection consists of my very favorites, which is how I like to keep it. That, and a large portion of the series I have are ones that are way ahead of slow publications, or series that are not licensed in English.

I recently ordered six volumes of manga from Japan, since even though the series, Nabari no Ou, has been licensed, the first book won't be released in English until the middle of next year, and even then, my favorite volumes won't come out for years. I also ordered the ninth volume of Immortal Rain in Japanese.

Yes, I used to. I'd pass by multiple newsstands(It'ìs where I buy them here) every single day just to see if there's a new volume out. But lately I'm really not into manga anymore. I rarely even read the ones available online.

Hello guys. ^_^
I have about 600 + volumes of english manga. I usually read manga online and when I like it and its licensed, then I buy it. Been collecting since college. A little heavy on the pocket but very well worth it. Like someone said here, nothing beats having the real book in your hands. smile wink grin

Wow.

I have a tiny collection of manga, cause I'm broke and still studying.
I used to rent them for S$2, and I think I've spent S$xyz already.

Yeah, so I doubt I'll buy them in the near future.

Aye, I sure do. But I only buy the series that I really enjoyed. I don't wanna be wasting my money on a couple of volumes then finding out that it effin sucks.

The two I'm collecting now is Naruto and Rosario + Vampire. Although i'm up to date with everything on those two, I want to get nice quick easy access rather than from the computer all the time, especially because my parents moan at me for being on the computer all the time roll eyes

Shame it's an effing treck to get to the manga shop though. It takes me around an hour to get there. Worth it though. Forbidden Planet fo lyf!

So i read most of my manga online. It can't be helped though. I hardly have much money to go buy manga laugh

Yes!! I have around 200+ purchased volumes of manga. Ranges from Shounen to Shoujo, to Yaoi to Ecchi. wink
Currently, for my purchased series, the volumes of Manhwa(korean manga) is dominating my Mangas. But online, I read more mangas.
