I have a passion for strong female characters and by that I mean emotionally and by that I mean admiring. Though if the strong female character isn't the lead or heroine then I suspect she may of been put there as an convenience.

I would like suggestions/recommendations for a manga with a strong female lead, a good manga with believeable characters if you can. If not then I just want your suggestion. She has to be self - sufficient.

I would also like it to be under the action genre because violence and a strong female lead seems like a good mix to me.

Dogs: Naoto is one of the main characters. Sword wielding and kick ass.
Island: The lead female is kind of a sociopath...which is awesome.
Claymore: Filled with strong female characters.
Dorohedoro: Totally out there manga, but it's fun. All the females in this are crazy strong and.. strange.
Toukyou ESP: Seems promising so far. Young girl, strong emotionally, and independent.
Raiders: She eats the flesh of humans to stay alive...

Black Lagoon was the first on my mind too.

Nevertheless, to name some new, try:

Those who chase the Ageha - female lead is a murder suspect and hunted through the galaxy while trying to catch the real culprit on her own. It has action but is equally strong on the comedy part (so not the badass kinda manga as black lagoon, but you might like it).
Triage X - ...lots of badass chicks and a truckload of action going on.
Medaka Box - You could argue one of the weirdest and strongest females you will ever see in a manga (though shounen).

Action... right now, I'm thinking anime/movies --

Princess Mononoke... though... it's told through a male's point of view... hmmm... but she's bada--

Noir is in the girls-with-guns genre... stylistically beautiful action scenes...

Otome Youkai Zakuro (just watching the first 5 minutes, you're like: oh crap!! She's got such a cute face but a scary slicing skills)... though... this is also a romantic comedy...

Spice and Wolf - I love Horo (or Holo, however people prefer to spell her name). Though this story is not "action-packed" per say (frankly, it's a slow slice-of-life-ish story about economics in a pre-capitalist setting)... but she's a wise wolf!! She's so coy... ♥
