Basically I'm looking for an action oriented story with a main character who is actively trying to be a villan, but is actually good. This could be done in a comical fashion (like the main character making pitiful attempts to be bad, but ends up doing the right thing while still trying to convince others that he/she is evil) or it could be serious (with the chara struggling over which side to be on and actually doing seriously evil things while slowly changing to good over time). Shounen or josei are preferable, but any genre is fine, so long as there is a decent amount of action/adventure and a good storyline/characters.

I realize this may be hard to find, but I really love this type of story! biggrin Thanks in advance!

Here's one that 100% fits the criteria you wanted..unfortunately it's not been scanslated.
Joker (YAMANE Kazutoshi) - It's a story about a vigilante/anti-villian who's making a living as a wrestler. He always makes himself look like a villian, even when he's in his wrestler alter-ego, he plays as the bad guy and let his other opponents win to make the audience (mostly kids) happy.

Like the Dark Knight? biggrin

Um, Kuroshitsuji might work.
He works as the underground, or illegal, police. Basically, he does all the illegal wrong stuff that most people would see as villainous in order to help other people. He doesn't see himself as a good person, but he actually is. Takes a few chapters but it's really good.

When someone mentioned Dark knight, I immediately think of Christian Bale's role in The Equilibrium.
If you're into watching movies, try watching that movie.

[The trailer doesn't justify how awesome the movie is..I personally think the Matrix is a rip-off version of this movie]

In that movie, he's a high ranking priest who killed a lot of people...but he slowly questioned his actions after he's deprived from the drugs that made him emotionless. It's pretty awesome. sad

Thanks for the replies so far everyone! Brucie_kun, thank's for your suggestions, I'm gonna rent Equilibrium, it looks interesting. I want to read Joker (i've heard of it before) I hope someone scanlates it soon. Unusuallove, I'm gonna try out Kuroshitsuji, thanks.

Any other manga/anime suggestions would be appreciated. ^ _ ^

How can the Matrix be a rip-off version of that movie if it came out first? Equilibrium came out in 2002 and the Matrix came out in 1999.

I said, it's my personal opinion. It's not 'literally a rip off of the matrix' but more like, this movie deserves more attention since many people have misconceptions of how the movie looks a lot like Matrix... none

Definitely Vampire Juujikai (serious, not comical).
