i like manga because the kids comics at my place are books with no realistic plots or characters. i loved kids comics when i was young. but now it's making me mad with it's unrealistic endings and views on this current real world times. also i can't resist anime/manga art.

I like manga because there are many interesting stories and a wider range of genres and themes. I also enjoy the art style and humour. smile wink grin

Well, that's an easy question.. This is kind of why I love to read manga:

For me, Manga is not like reading. It's kind of like an Anime in my head. It gives me a visiual. Whenever I'm reading manga, I get.. Warped into 'another world' so to say. My mind goes blank and blocks out everything else and focuses on that one thing. It takes my mind off of everything else and I just escape for a while. It's kind of like I'm someone else. Not only do I enjoy that feeling but I love it because I like to see things happen in a perspective other than mine. It's entertaining to see fictonal characters intertwine with one another and see all the things that can happen. It's like being a camera and video taping a movie. Scene after scene. There's all kind of feelings you can get from a manga that make it real. It's not the kind of book where you picture everything in your mind. Though it's not an Anime where everything is alive. It's kind of a mixture of the two. You can kind of experiance what their feeling. I love it. To sum it up I love to read manga because it's fun, entertaining, filled with wonders and you can experiance another world in someone's eyes.

Well, manga is just like any other form of storytelling medium in that it takes up time and tells a story. I love stories and manga has some amazing artwork, which is a definite plus. There are plenty of bad or "trash" manga but whenever I find one of the great manga through giving this and that a try, the gratification and enjoyment I get out of it is worth it. Mangaka tend to tell some really crazy or weird stories which I find interesting when done correctly.

I'm a 23 year old male.

For me, it came down to a matter of cost. (29/male) Let me explain:

American comic books typically cost $3-4 today, and are only 20 or so pages worth. With a manga, costs are $8-12 per US book, with each book averaging 150 or more pages. Its obvious where the best buy is. Plus, manga is generally released weekly rather than monthly like a typical US comic book.

Female, 20 years old.

I've always liked to draw, and therefore I'm really interested in both art and drawing styles. I think manga attracted me because it's a merging of books and cartoons - and still it's neither. For me, the art in manga and anime is REALLY important because it has to earn my respect, if you know what I mean. And ah, I might be very visually orientated, since it means so much to me. So, it's like my hobby looking at art merged with my love for books = manga.

But honestly, I don't know why exactly I'm so drawn to manga. confused This is just a guess.

Because it is the embodiment of everything ideal in the world?

Ah, I would phrase it in another way, though you're onto something. But I wouldn't call it embodiment of everything ideal in the world. Many genres fit into that category, but on the other hand, many don't. Maybe it could be called a way of experiencing either things you want to (re)experience or just wanting to try some excitement. Well, it's the same use as with books. But it isn't necessarily idealism (if it was, I'd be a bit scared in some cases), since people often read stuff with a lot of gore etc. I don't think they dream of it becoming reality, though it is exciting to read about. smile

Female 18

I've enjoyed manga for a long time, since elementary school. I always saw it as a diverse and fun medium- there's always something I can relate to.

Not to mention it's like my little addiction/escape from reality lol

I think that, like other forms, such as books, poetry, television, etc., manga particularly suits a certain type of content. I think that almost all the manga I read wouldn't translate successfully to book form, but work perfectly as manga, the fusion of art and language.
