is there a shoujo romance manga that is equally enjoyable for both guys and girls. I want something thats not about a girl chasing after a bishounen but something more deep than that and is told from both the guys and girls perspective if possible
Good examples are
Lovely Complex
Kare Kano

I always recommend people to read Basara and 7 seeds by Tamura Yumi, their plotlines are top notch and they're both different from any other shoujo mangas. Both of them have action, drama and adventure that attract male readers as well as romance as their subplot with multiple POV from different characters. The art can be a problem to some people, but people can get used to it, just like One piece readers.
Other recommendations that have the perspective of the main characters...
Hana no namae..perfectly fits your criteria. You're gonna love it.
Mix vegetable..a shoujo where the main couple strive to reach their life goals and support each other. There's plenty of character development.
Cat street
Adarushan no Hanayome
The works by Akino Matsuri..Night exile and Petshop of horrors
Gold Rush 21..dont get fooled by the manga description, the relationship between the characters are more complicated than we expect.
Hanatsukihime, many people say the art attracts male readers...
Kimi wa Pet
Absolute Witch..this is pretty good too. It has romance and adventure.
Deep Love - Ayu no Monogatari and its sequels. Multiple perspectives of different characters.
Love Letter (SEO Kouji)..I dont know why it's categorized as shounen when the art and plotline suggest otherwise. It's still a good read [Based on a true story]

Kimi wa Pet (though it's a josei)
Absolute Boyfriend (it's a bit girlish indeed but I enjoyed it very much)
I also read The One and Skip Beat and I like them.

hmm...
For some reason, my guy friends liked Fruits Basket (at least, the anime) -- the anime's ending got me so curious as to read the manga, and I'm glad I made that decision.
Otokomae! Beads Kurabu is an entertaining, short read.
Oresama Teacher and Gokusen (though josei) seem like something that guys would enjoy.
Ghost Hunt (though I watched the anime) was pretty fun too!! But the romance is not focused...
Honey and Clover (josei) was something I really liked (watch the anime). It's a hit or miss... It hit home for me since I was a recent college graduate... some parts are told from the male's perspective!!
and there's a raving fanboy on Aerandria's IRC who shares a passion for Hapi Mari. loooool. (This one's a guilty pleasure for me.)

How could I forget Aishiteruze Baby and Pink Lady
(maybe) Kimi wa Girlfriend
It seems Superior and Superior Cross are classified as shounen, but (to me) they read like a shoujo

I was going to suggest Suzuka, but I see that you've already read it. How about Parallel?
Edit: I second Aishiteruze Baby.

I'm a guy and my fav shoujo are:
Aishiteruze Baby
Kodocha
Crossroad
Vampire Game
Milk Crown this is quite an absurd read though.
Fruits Basket
@Casey: how is Parallel a shoujo now? lol
