For the baby-shoujo thing,
Aishiteruze Baby
I don't hink it fits in slice of life, but it's pretty good.

I assume you've read the very shounen-y stuff like Kateikyoushi Hitman Reborn!, Kekkaishi, Eyeshield 21, Shaman King, Slam Dunk, Fullmetal Alchemist and Rurouni Kenshin. If you have not, go check them out.
So my recs:
Barakamon definitely for slice of life!
Gintama is pretty awesome, more so if you understand Japanese culture 'cause they parody a lot of that stuff (numerous Dragon Quest homages!)
Amatsuki - doesn't fall under yr slice of life, shounen, shoujo cat, but it's worth a shot.
Alive: The Final Evolution - don't get put off by the art in the first few volumes. Improves tremendously. And I mean TREMENDOUSLY.
Historie - recent find of mine. Once again, nt in the slice of life, shounen, shoujo cat but I just had to add it in.
The Circumstances of Izumo Kunisaki - hilarious ttm!
Kuroshitsuji - If you haven't read this one, START NOW!
Lots lots more to recommend, but I shall leave you with this for now. It would be better to make your reading lists public so I can skip out those you've already read. =D

My favorite slice-of-life, childcare manga is Usagi Drop (It's josei, but it's well written!! You'll find yourself laughing at some situations... very heart-warming.)
A funny, adorable slice-of-life, childcare story is Hanamaru Kindergarten (watch the anime). I know... seinen + children? Don't worry. IT'S NOT LOLI!!
I'm currently loving --
Gokusen (hilarious)
Shiawase Kissa Sanchoume (the children's appearances are cute... and the main female lead is sooooooo adorable!!)
For something episodic (in-between-reads): Yotsubato!
And for something a little more serious (but there's some laughs thrown in there as well) -- Natsume Yuujinchou
EDIT -- There's this really cute one-shot I forgot: Minna Kirakira.

Kaitai Shinsho Ø - Shounen and Comedy
Iris Zero - Has a good story but it is a Seinen
Magico (IWAMOTO Naoki) - Shounen, isn't labeled Comedy, but I think it's funny
Fairy Tail - Shounen, Comedy
Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai <- EPIC STORY

7 Seeds The story in this manga is EPIC. I can't say much without spoiling the 3rd (?) chapter, but stick with it until after volume 2~ because thats when things really pick up. Don't judge it based on its fluffy shoujo art, this manga gets really dark and gritty. You never know what the mangaka is going to do. Spoilers below if you need additional convincing.

Some things that are in this manga: Superviruses, disaster shelters, genocide, battle-royales, man-eating insects, carnivorous plants ect ect.
