Here is where it's going.
Sadly, now that the protagonist has become a wuss and the old characters are gone, this manga has lost most of its charm for me. It's still a superb work, so I will read it to the end, I only hope that this boring farmland arc will not last much longer.

Well it seems to be ending, from what i can see its going to lead to is that Thorfinn and that slave buddy are going to help the woman and maybe her husband, will maybe get captured, the island gets raided my Canut's men, things get out of hand Thorfinns bud gets wacked and he tells Thorfinn to take the chick to safety which he does, gets a resolution to stop Canut not in a way he used to did though, he will try to resolve it in a manner his father would, either this or he will succumb to rage and decides to kill Canut, just speculation which from the looks of how things have been building up might really happen o_O, either that or im bad at guessing what will happen.

I am sorry, i dont mean to be mean, but that is really dumb...
Noway is a manga like that going to have such linear, simple and stupid plot...
This isn't some shit like Bleach or Naruto where the good guy defeats a villain = end of story...

End is too far for this manga. There are many things it have yet to complete :
*Helping that slave girl and his husband.
*Helping the farm owner to win against the king (ofcourse reunion with the past folks).
*Thorfinn meets his guardians(the one who is with the farm owner now).

And lastly the most important thing- the search for Vinland.
I am sure that at this pace 100 more chapters wont be enough to end it.

Well it has been shown that Canut is actually planning to invade that place and take the land for money, soooooo something is about to happen there that involves Canut and Thorfinn, and as i said it was just a guess seeing how things are being built up, the farm is a point where things will change from Farmland Saga. Though somehow im quite sure as many have thought that Vinland Saga will end in Vinland.

I was delighted by the sudden shift to the farmland saga. Many people found the lack of violence to be boring so I'd like to briefly compare this whole series to the kill bill volumes 1 and 2 and make predictions about the plot in the upcoming chapters.

The first volume of Kill Bill was jam packed full of gory magnificent violence and was rock'in just like Vinland saga Part 1. But then Kill Bill changes gears in volume 2 to a much more different movie that was more of a western with long drawn out fight scenes and preparation than the hack and slash in volume 1. Many people didn't like Vol.2 since it was so different from Vol.1 but they needed to appreciate Vol.2 for what it is and not what it isn't (a duplicate of Vol.1)

I feel the author of Vinland Saga wants to have the story go in a completely different direction to show the personal growth of Thorfinn and doing so would definitely have to reduce the violence within the farmland arc to contrast his previous self.

Now my predictions for the series. I think the series will rock.

~few spoilers within~

-Canute's campaign would present difficult situations to our hero as Canute will definitely approach Thorfinn with violence (since Canute's the bad guy)
-Thorfinn will definitely be visited by his dad's ghost and Askeladd's ghost along with Leif Erikson as checkpoints for his progress. (I find Askeladd funny and Thorfinn's father epicly dramatic)
-And again Thorkell will be the wildcard who will definitely in the end side with Thorfinn after much drama. (Thorkell stated earlier that he wanted to understand Thors' definition of a true warrior)
-And Canute's reign could be for the good of the land if you think the ends justifies the means, which will present a major decision for Thorfinn if he gets Canute at his mercy (since he's the hero and he'll beat the bad guy) :kill Canute or flee.
-Plus new characters like snake, Einar, the slave couple and the farmer's kid who have much more depth than the previous muscle-brains of the series; Thorfinn will have a sweet entourage to accompany him into battle or fleeing if he does no war.

~end spoilers~

tl;dr Farmland saga is a great setup for a story containing more depth; and tensions/characters are already present to erupt the series into a dramatic bloodbath. Also i feel the art's gotten better even though it was never bad.

i agree with aznpooface..(... really?). For a prologue to be 54 monthly chapters long speaks wonders about how forever this saga will continue for. A story needs its ups AND downs to give it that impact that readers want when shit does happen. Good reference to Kill Bill which pretty much does the same motion. Kill Bill Vol. 2 was awesome and it's slower pace made it's action even better. The only problem with this set up in manga format is the slow release times. It's just better to just wait till each arc is out to before you start reading again. I can see people's frustration with Farmland Saga when they read chapter by chapter. I suggest just putting this on your Hold List and wait out as long as you can.

Onto story predictions, since this is about explorer Thorfinn's life, you can pretty much expect him to eventually seek out Vinland. This is probably from the fact that his future answer to having a world with "no war or slaves" is basically running away from it all and find a new virgin land (to tarnish once again, so his efforts will be for not, but this is a story and by golly we are going to have a happy ending!). This is all pretty much foretold in the farmland arc since he keeps thinking about how to avoid violence and have peace (and blah blah) but probably by near the farmland arc's closing realize that this is an impossible ideology and must take up his daggers once again to defend those that he cares for. This will make him a better warrior (aka DBZ upgrade) from his past bloodthirsty self with a mind clouded for revenge. He will start to resemble more like his farther (his new hair style suggests this too! +_+ ). Once he is out of the farmland mess, he will still try to grab at straws to figure how to work towards his ideology and eventually take up exploring. This will probably take forever. Hope we'll all enjoy this ride together.

You do know that North America comprises Canada and such? It's a landmass, not a country..

I never said otherwise. So, your decision to assume that I know what I'm talking about is decent, one I hope many others of adequate intelligence and no small degree of pretention emulate.

Well it seems I was mostly right except with the who got wacked and go to safety part so there is only one thing here that is dumb.....

Did the author (or anyone, really) say how much of the manga we have left? Or at least is it going to end after the farmland arc or not? I hope that it's just an interlude and then we'll get some more action with Thorfinn as a full-grown (well, at least psychologically) warrior... if it ends soon, I'll be disappointed.

Yukimura stated years ago in some interview for France (maybe?) and not so long ago at his twitter account that Vinland Saga will probably be over 5 000 pages long (we have about 2 700 done now). Stating something will be "over 5 000" means it shouldn't go over 6 000. Let's say that Vinland Saga reaches 5 400 pages, which means we are in half of the story right now. From the start of serialization Yukimura claimed that he has story for (by guess) 25 volumes. The final number may (and probably will) be different because it is just a guess and some parts might take more panels(/pages/chapters) that Yukimura anticipated.

chapter 98-99 spoilers

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
This is the end of farmland, apparently... but I can't say I'm happy. The whole arc was buildup before the scene of Canute's and Thorfinn's reunion and then all the tension just goes away. I really liked that Canute became such a dark and ruthless character, the scenes in which he talks with his dead father's head were great, and now suddenly he's good again? "Hey, why don't you stop killing these people and go away" "Sure, great idea, bye!". And now the manga seems to make a complete turn and becomes nice and optimistic again. I preferred the darker Vinland saga. And I miss Askeladd.

SPOILER ALERT:

I feel like from now on instead of hardship from fighting other men, it'll be mostly hardship against prudence and nature... It will be a lot more helpless/sorrowful that way.....
