Ok so I like this type of manga, the story so far has been good, the art is amazing. In a way this manga reminded me of Vagabond. incase you are wondering in which way - I think it's the violent warrior searching for something, sure the two series have a lot of differences but that's not the point I am getting at.

Mangas like these have to have an aim, a goal for a protagonist, and clearly the goal of Thorfinn was recently taken away so now he has become a 'no violence' type of warrior, but the problem here is that's a type of state that should be in the end of the manga.

If the protagonist already found his peace or at least has this goal visible to him where will the manga go? Sure on one hand we have Canute the Great, but as for Thorfinn how fun will a story be where a child already has a strong resolve to not harm anyone?

any thought?

Spoilers, obviously.

No, ending the manga at that point would have been a horrid choice. As you say, Thorfinn's one goal in life was vengeance for his paps, and when he missed that boat, his life was pointless afterward. What I don't get is how you assume that that makes a good ending. Haven't you noticed how passive, or even vegetative his mind's become? Well, at least in the earlier Farmland Saga chapters. He may as well just die in a very unhappy and stupid ending, if you want it to have finished there.

... so now he has become a 'no violence' type of warrior, but the problem here is that's a type of state that should be in the end of the manga.

He's hardly a "no-violence" warrior. He isn't nearly as berserk as he was, but

evidently, when the need arrives, knows how to throw a punch.

Hot dog, more wrong assumptions. Would you kindly direct me to this peace he's found? Or at least his new goal in life. As far as I know, such things are what he's currently in the middle of searching for, and it'd be a pretty bad choice to end something when it hasn't even finished yet.

...but as for Thorfinn how fun will a story be where a child already has a strong resolve to not harm anyone?

He doesn't. And judging by that badass goatee/circle beard thing, he isn't a child. Hasn't been, as far as I know, since his pappie was moiderd in front of him. Who really knows when childhood is lost, though. But on an unrelated matter, I'd be interested in a story about someone who doesn't want to hurt anyone, as long as it's well-written. Guess you still have to open that mind of yours, huh.

You ideas sound good, i just hope i don't get fed up with the series before it gets going again. Considering how boring this has become it but be loosing readers by the tonne. I just hope it doesn't get cancelled.

Yeah, I thought 'Vinland' was North America...Greenland isn't really that green and fertile, is it? [Thinking back to that line in Mighty Ducks 2].

Yep, I thought it was North America too... there's an indian depicted in early chapters.
Farmland Saga is a good title, i laugh so hard...
Oh my, will it become something like rurouni kenshin? redemption and a warrior who won't kill?
Guess i'll take a break from this manga until it has 3 more volumes released from the current arc.

You do know that North America comprises Canada and such? It's a landmass, not a country.

Asinine bitching aside i believe te manga has been very interesting from the beginning AND including the farmland part. I think people are only now starting to realize that even though it is an action manga, and with some of the best scenes anywhere, it also has a, imho, deep psychological component.

So, in answer to the OPs question, i think the author intends to take Thorfinn through is issues with violence, war, vengeance and his family and in a more actiony part probably how he deals with Canute and his eventual voyage to the west(?)

This is going in the same direction as Blade of the Immortal, which means nowhere.

If you just google a bit it's obvious that it will finish in Vinland which is in modern-day Canada since this is a historical manga.
And I like the slave/farm arc because Thorfinn is resembling his father Thors a lot more now.

Yea, i agree, it may have less action but the depiction of how he fares after his goal was taken away from him is interesting, a bit stretched out but a storm seems to be coming with old friends from his past poppin up soon.

I'm on the fence with the whole farmland saga arc. It really depends what the author does with it in the end. I also wouldn't mind the pacing as much if the release schedule wasn't so slow...

Sadly this manga changed from twice-a-month into once-a-month magazine just before farming arc which does it bit disservice.

I'm starting to become fed up with the Farmland too... but I think it's going to end soon. Thorfinn lost his goal in life and gradually became a different person... but he still doesn't know what to do with his life. I think he'll find something to live for and become a true warrior like his father. At least I hope so - it would be a pity if the manga ended with the Farmland arc...
