So far Naoki Urasawa's 20th Century boys has been made into live-action movie, apparently Universal Pictures is planning to make a live action film for Pluto and a few years back, people from New Line Cinema also took an interest on Monster live action.

If they've finally decided to make a movie about it, I'm curious which actors/actresses would fit the roles in Monster. [Just for the fun of it]

I could think of actors/actresses that 'physically' fit the roles... biggrin

Alex Pettyfer as Johan Liebert

I know he's not really one of the 'best' actors out there, but he does physically fit Johan's character. He has that pretty boy/girl look.., I'm curious if he can take on a complex character like Johan.

Rachel Nichols as Anna Liebert
When I first saw her in Criminal Minds, the first thing that came into my mind was 'Omg, she looks like Anna!'.

Daniel Henney as Dr Tenma.

another possible option is..

Yutaka Takenouchi.

Personally, I prefer Cillian Murphy over Alex Pettyfer since he has experiences taking on complex gender-bender roles before in Peacock and Breakfast in Pluto..and he looks stunningly evil as villians in Red Eye and Batman Begins...The only problem is, if he's Johan..are there any actresses that can physically play Anna?

...unless Cillian takes on BOTH roles.

Your thoughts about this? As for me, I look forward to the day when Monster and Pluto live action come out. They did a pretty good job on 20th Century Boys. I guess... why not?

The thing is, the one to play Johan should actually be the one to play Anna. If you let Alex Pettyfer play Johan and he were to dress up as Anna, it would be unbelievable, right?

But I think Rachel Nichols is, indeed, a great choice.

This is the most recent news on the project from last August:
http://crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2014/08/14/guillermo-del-tor o-mentions-monster-adaptation-in-sugoi-japan-endorsement
You can find very similar pieces from late last year too but let´s remember that Guillermo del Toro is the king of a million project´s at once so just be pleasantly surprised if our masterpiece´s adaptation actually comes out. I know that Urasawa had to approve the scrip(s) personally so if the project succeeds it will be a close tie. If Urasawa is is too much for the masters of control (or quality) HBO then it is dead again. Suspense!
Project like this and not misguided and trashy nonsense like Akira or GitS (how many scrips deep are the now in?) that deliberately go against the original source or audience are important for the recognition of the medium as a whole and would brings a high amount of prestige to my favorite japanese writer too. We do have the perfect (and today sadly unprocurable) anime to keep us company but i am not writing this thing of just yet as Ice and Fire (9/10) got it´s day in the sun too despite higher odds and HBO´s similar beast True Detective blew everyone away.
This could be a good companion i hope that my favorite channel sees it the same way.
If anyone who has never tried Monster is reading this then fix that right now but i am willing to say that his Billy Bat could overshadow it as i am glued to my screen just like a decade ago with this one when i read it and the ambition is undeniably higher.
Happy (re)-reading and Brucie_kun´s casting isn´t half bad.
