Quote from JakeeDylan
Toriko, One Piece, and Naruto are the most popular in Jump. Bleach and Reborn are not regardless of what people say. HunterxHunter is already not going to have a high popularity, seeing as children aren't as interested in it. It enters too many hiatuses, so they probably get bored of waiting, plus ...

Indeed, HxH has a great potential and is more for older readers, darn shame hes in WSJ with it sad would be a lot more popular in seinen giving him more to work with.

toriko's been one of the big 3 in japan since a lil before the anime started... bleach lost the spot @ the time of the One piece-Toriko crossover, Jump made it that way, overseas the big 3 may be One piece, naruto and bleach BUT thats not likely to be the case in japan where SJ is.

Personally Toriko is in my top 3 for fav manga weekly. Fairy Tale is too frustrating to where you cant tell or see the characters getting stronger. They get strong for one chapter, then become weak again. but everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

I had some outdated info when I made my post. Toriko is in the big three, and a good thing to because t'is my second favorite shounen series after One Piece. I still wish H x H could tone down the hiatuses. It could be so much more popular.

I've noticed for a long time now that Toriko has replaced Bleach. I think this was around when I read volume 4 or so. And ever since volume 30 or so of Bleach, everyone knows it's been terrible.

Sure, its sales and popularity haven't surpassed many other series, but its potential is off the charts. Toriko is in puberty, going through a growth spurt, while many other series have long passed that stage.

Personally, I'd prefer Magi to be in the big three. ^ q^ Golly, it's just amaaazing right now. Supremely epic! Too bad it's so dark. OTL I don't think kids can appreciate it as much as they should.

My favourite series has long departed from WSJ to Jump Square, though. I know for certain, though, that D.Gray-Man can't ever be a flagship. It's just not that kind of manga. It's a very rough diamond, and it hiatuses almost as much if not more than HxH.

Reborn will never be one, either. It's too purely fan service and the plot is dull. The fandom is swarmed with fujoshi, and we fujoshi tend to drive away normal fans. I stopped at volume 9 or so--it was just too dull, though the art is amazing. I don't read HxH, so I don't know about that one. The character designs are poor, so I'm not interested.

Ah, Naruto. I find it absolutely amazing that Kishimoto has kept the quality up so high. It's still friggin' amazing to me, and Hinata has been amazing the past few chapters~ The biggest flaw, yes, is of course the horrendously long flashbacks no one cares about. I really wish Kishi would start doing more research again, because I am really craving more strategically adept battles. I wouldn't say Toriko is more popular, though. I really hope it isn't, because though Toriko is great, it's quite juvenile. The attacks are even more bland than typical shounen manga, and the art is hideous and it's so misogynistic and so flawed even though it's super interesting--rant rant rant.

Contrary to popular belief, this series has never been worthy of the title of "big 3". Well one could even go further and say there was never such a thing like the big 3 rather than big 1, since OP has always been a cut above the rest when it comes to sales, but I digress.

Toriko has had only one decent year. 2011 where it came in 5th place overall tankubon (volumes) sales with 4.5+ mil. That and due to always being top in the rankings, Toriko replaced Ichigo alongside Naruto and Luffy on the cover of jump volumes giving people the impression it truly did become one of the top 3. Sadly however, that year was a rare peak for Toriko and since then it has been in a downward spilar. Though I could leave out the sadly since Toriko became boring as soon the focus strayed away from hunting.

If any series belongs to the big 3 atm, its Kuroko no Basket. 2012 it had 8 mil tankubon sales whereas Toriko wasn't even in the top 10 most sold series with its little over 3 mil sales. And the first half of 2013 didn't show any signs of it changing since again it wasn't even in the top 10. It'll be interesting to see where it ended this year.

Heck, the covers and crossover was just due to Jump trying to promote and it had a good start since Jump is in dire need of new big hits since Bleach has become mediocre at best and Naruto is running on its (poor) last legs. Still the big 3 weren't called the big 3 just cause they had a short period of success like Toriko had. So yeah, I know its just my five cents, but this series really never was a big 3. People hoped it could be due to a good start, but it just couldn't live up due to the new hype. Hell it's probably not even the #1 food series of Jump anymore, Shokugeki no Soma been killing it in the ratings, now if that would represent sales than it really ain't looking good for Toriko.

Even with all it hiatuses, and having no chapter at all in 2012, HxH still outsold Toriko... Same for 2013. HxH (spot 5) even outsold the shitfest that Naruto became. Toriko was even nowhere to find in the top 10.
And sales were always the measuring staff for the big 3. So yeah, Toriko isn't a big 3 regardless of what people say.
