battle angel alita lack of good story development and the art is kinda old, perhaps it was good at that time.

FMA is quite unique can't put it in the same type like eyeshield21, es21 is good but I see it just as a typical shounen, quite predictable.

Hikaru no Go is very, very good.

And, I'm gonna go out on a big ole limb here, and disagree with y'all about Naruto (the manga, NOT the anime). It is deserving of its fame. Sure, the story line is super-long, but it has (and has always had) direction in its plot (when mangas lose this, aka DeathNote, you know that's its all over). It is clear that Kishimoto is telling a story that has a beginning, middle, and will eventually have an end. Sure there are long back stories and stuff, but very little complete filler. The story takes a long time to develop, which can definitely be annoying when you are reading from week to week. But sit back sometime with, say, five or six volumes consecutive of the series, and you won't find Kishimoto's pace annoying at all. Instead, you'll be pleased at the way the plot gradually unfolds.

I find hard choosing between seinen titles, since there are many good ones, and sincerely i prefer them over shounen in general. 20th Century Boys and Monster are between my favourites, i would include Vagabond, Berserk (until the end of the band of the hawk saga), Blade of the Inmortal, Gunnm.
Best shounen, well, can include Jojo´s bizarre adventure, Eyeshield 21, Hikaru no go, Claymore, Full metal alchemist, Mirai nikki, well, don´t remember more right now.
About Naruto, i think the first part is the better part, including the end of the search of Tsunade arc, it´s pretty good, then it becomes less better, characters only powering up and Naruto only chasing after Sasuke and Sasuke only seeking revenge.
About One Piece, the first part is quite good too, the arcs telling the story background of the characters are quite good and moving, but after Chopper joins it isn´t as funny and moving as before, except maybe Robin´s arc.
About Hunter x Hunter, until the Greed Island arc ends, it´s quite good, too bad the art quality decreases too much...
So, generally speaking shonen jump series get dissapointing after they get too long...

hmm.. i'm wondering why nobody mentionend Shamo, Shin Angyo Onshi (well, it's a manwa, but who cares?), Dorohedoro, Freesia, Rough (and other mangas from Adachi Mitsuru), Homunculus.. ahh.. the list is jsut too long =)
just one last recommendation: Angel Densetsu.. the artwork becomes pretty good over time ^^ and the story is funny the whole time

shamo, dorohedoro, Freesia, and Rough are too bloody for majority taste.

Angel Densetsu is very funny, one of my favourite comedy manga.

Offtopic: Keep seeing "Reborn" throughout most of the topic, is that the manga "Kateikyoushi Hitman Reborn!"?

Ontopic: Not sure of best deserving Shounen/Seinen manga though I'll give it a shot, Berserk, I've thought was always good, Bleach, I haven't read in awhile though I've been told it modifies formula for this genre somewhat, One Piece, haven't watched the anime lately but I find the manga to be pretty good still. And that's it (a.k.a. my attempt at staying on topic).

My 2 cents (I will try something different bigrazz ):

Seinen: Kurogane (Great stories), Kurozuka (Great art), Eternal Sabbath (Best psychological manga I read, far better than the overated Death Note).

Shounen: Chrno Crusade. Still have to read Kenshin, but I liked the anime very much, so probably it will be the same for the manga. I don't read many shounen and for now nothing particular comes to my mind. Maybe Love Hina is another good choice for me.

Anyway my favourite manga is Kodomo no Omocha, I know that it's a shoujo but it's a crime for me to not mention it.

P.S. I hate waiting, so I rarely read manga that are not complete. It's for that reason that I omissed a lot of manga that other people already said, not 'cause I don't like them smile

I'm amazed noone has mentioned Kekkaishi, considering it's has a pretty nice storyline and setting. Also, one of the coolest characters in shounen is in Kekkaishi, until recently that is. T_T

That being said, Naruto and One Piece are pretty good shounen manga, though only the anime of One Piece does the manga justice. Bleach I grew tired of long ago.

OVERALL, NARUTO AND BLEACH DO NOT DESERVE IT'S FAME. :] . ;D There's much better series out there than these two, and they aren't that great. =/

My favourite shonen manga? Hm... Death Note is #1. No competition. The plot is uh-mazing [first arc > second arc], and really original. Just a small loose end... how does writing in a notebook KILL people? [i'm joking, I'M JOKING. Please don't kill me ;__;]

I haven't finished Death Note yet, was pretty good, but hanging around in forums have pretty much ruined all the potential surprises I might have had in the series.

I also lurve School Rumble, though it does get draggy at times. ONIGIRI FTW! Screw you Tenma, go die. >_> I also don't like the princess/bad-boy sort-of couples. o__O; It like... turns it into a shoujo cliche. -_- SHOUJO CLICHE IN SHOUNEN? NURRRRRRRRR!

H2,Cross Game and all mangas from Adachi Mitsuru deserve the tittle!
i know Adachi used quite-the-same formula in his mangas, but whatever, i just cant seem to get bored reading it.

Chrono Crusade would have to be my most favorite shounen manga. I like that it discards the need for endless battles for the sake of well-developed characters and a great plot. I wasn't sure at first if I could classify it as shounen, since it lacks the usual shounen "mold" (super-powerful main character, power-ups, and chapter-eating battles) but if it had to be classified, I think shounen would be the proper category. Either way, it's positively amazing. ^^ The other thing I love about it is that it's actually completed.

D.Gray-Man also gets a mention from me. I certainly don't think this one is perfect, but it's pretty good. The main character is amazing - one of the only shounen leads I really love. The characters are all unique and likeable, and even though some of the battles go on for quite a long time, I have to say I'm looking forward to how things turn out.

World Embryo would have to be my favorite seinen, and one of the very few I've read. It's by the author of Chrono Crusade, and again, has great art and plot so far. It has a very interesting premise, one that I've never seen in any manga before.

As for the more popular shounen series, I'm not a huge fan of Bleach, though the author's art style is very good, and some of the characters are quite interesting. It's hard to take it seriously, since I feel absolutely no tension when it comes to the fights, though. The characters always live through every battle, and eventually win. Though I may not know the ultimate outcome, it sometimes feels like the same formula playing through, over and over again.

When it comes to Naruto, the art is sort of sub-par in comparison to Bleach's, but I like the characters and plot a lot more. The author has really put time into developing both. Even though Naruto has run on for so long, I think it's interesting, and when it finishes, I'll definitely read it. Currently, I just can't take the fights that stretch out over months and months. I may not be a wild fan of the series, (it's not flawless by any means) but I like it a lot. Three cheers for the author being able to kill off his characters! Even though the fights run on forever, it's nice to know that there's a chance that the characters might not make it through. It adds a little more tension and realism to it.

20th century boy, in my opinion.
It's also the manga that helped me get into classical rock and playing guitar. So basically it's the most influential piece of liteature I've ever read.

PS:I wrote "I've" in bold, because just because I thought it was amazing doesn't mean it will be for you.
