I think there actually some big steps between yaoi and real life "gay". But I think it all depends on what kind of yaoi you're reading.

I always find two guys kissing each other rather hot or cute. I used to watch loads of gay movies/series. I'm not disgusted by gay porn, I watch it quite often, which I think many, or at least SOME women are watching even though they don't read yaoi.

How can you tell that a person is gay then? I haven't watch porn for that long so I'm not sure I know much about it, what I've seen there are sure a lot of crappy videos but there are still some that are very nice. Some Japanese AV vids are watchable because the production put effort into making an elaborate set-up and believable acting...sometimes, it's crazy! Actually many Japanese gay porn actors are known for doing Gay For Pay as well--when interviewed, a question that's often asked is "do you have a girlfriend right now?"
