The July issue of Hakusensha's LaLa magazine is announcing next Tuesday that a live-action television series adaptation of Bisco Hatori's Ouran High School Host Club romantic comedy manga has been green-lit for this July. The series on the TBS network will feature Yūsuke Yamamoto (Kamen Rider Kabuto, Hana Zakari no Kimi-tachi e) as the Host Club president Tamaki Suō and Haruna Kawaguchi (Yankee-kun to Megane-chan, Moshidora) as the heroine Haruhi Fujioka.

In the story, high school freshman Haruhi pretends to be a boy so that she can take part in the wealthy school's Host Club, to which she owes a large debt. The manga launched in LaLa in August of 2003, and Viz Media launched its North American release in July of 2005. The manga has been among the top-ranked titles both in Japan and on the New York Times manga best seller list. The manga ended in Japan last September, and Viz is publishing the 16th of 18 compiled book volumes next month.

In April 2006, a 26-episode anime began in Japan with Maaya Sakamoto as Haruhi and Mamoru Miyano as Tamaki. Funimation released the anime in North America in 2008.

I'm excited, but I'm also afraid that since it's a comedy, they're gonna go overboard with it, and by overboard, I mean lots of CGing, exaggerated acting and facial expressions, ect.

The two leads playing Tamaki and Haruhi look somewhat promising though, so I'll keep myself open for the drama till then. biggrin

No offense to the Japanese, but it's very easy to decide it's quality; if it's a half hour show it'll be garbage. If it's an hour it's got a shot. I hope it's good.

I want to be excited about this....but Im not. Ouran is one of my top favorites. I just cant imagine it as a drama.

Im getting a feeling like Im going to be disappointed.

*edit*
Thinking about it, coffee prince had a similar concept (Though its Korean), so maybe it wont be so bad.
Hm....well..........

Im starting to feel a bit excited now.

Hmm, honestly, Japanese dramas are ehhhh. Like someone said above, there are always too much exaggeration, overly excessive character(s).
I remember seeing the drama for Otomen (a romantic comedy) and I remember a woman teacher in the drama OVERLY going CRAZY for our main guy, showing her affections quite openly. It's quite unreal, as a teacher wouldn't be like that in real life.
Anyways, Im even more afraid of how they will show Tamaki's carefree idiot-ish king behavior. Or how they will show any of the other characters' personalities. I just hope that they will stick as closely to the manga as possible.
Another thing I'm afraid is that the story will be rushed, because for some reason, Japanese dramas are very short, only 13 or so episodes. And for a manga that has 18 volumes, there needs to be more episodes than that. I don't mind if they cut out some stuff from the manga, as long as it's NOT the important arcs/parts, like the members' pasts and how they came to be.
&& i looked up the guy who will be playing Tamaki and ehhhh...he's good looking, I guess, but I feel like he doesn't have Tamaki's handsomeness ? Manliness ? Well, I can't say for sure. I guess I'll just have to watch and see.
Overall, since it IS host club, one of y favorite manga of all time, I'll keep an eye out for it smile
