I'm guy too, I read manga since 5 grade & now I'm 20 years old, I always read shoujo, not ecchi, harem or shounen romance, it's shoujo, like Vampire Knight, La Corda D'oro, Skip Beat!.... (sometime shounen & yaoi too) & I love it.... there must be something wrong with me....

I'm actually a girl but I think guys reading shoujo mangas, which isn't a bad thing. I mean, not all the shoujo mangas are stupid with no plots, the art is always meant be good, very detailed, well drawn. So, there's nothing to be ashamed of. If guys like shoujos, GO FOR IT~ ♥ I'd love to have a boyfriend who reads shoujo too lol so that we can talk about it together, it'd be a lot of fun x3 hehe.

I prefer shoujo to be honest. Less fan service and shit. Usually.

I respect guys who read shoujo.
By experience, however, I've found that the guys I know who thought they read shoujo were actually reading ero-game adaptations or slice-of-life ecchi series... ^^;;
But if I met a guy who actually read and enjoyed shoujo manga, it would increase my respect for him rather than decreasing it. Having the strength of character to break societal norms and admit their interest in something that other people might deem strange is definitely an attractive characteristic in a guy.

I do read some Shoujo, though it is a small percentage of what I read.
My Main issue with Shoujo are the dissorted faces (Giga Eyes), All the Sparkels and the usally typical Shoujo type Female Lead (outcast/builled, weak willed, shy, simple minded, easily gets a crush because they come into contact with the Male Lead).
But I do Enojy Vampire Knight, Glass Mask, Kirai, Kore wa Koi no Hanashi and Torikagosou no Kyou mo Nemutai Juunintachi.

Most of what I read is shoujo, actually.
I don't read all shoujo, though. I tend to avoid reading things with smut, love triangles, giant eyes, and 90's art. I've read some series with those qualities and enjoyed them, but I tend not to like them in general.
But really, shoujo or shounen or whatever doesn't really matter to me, just so long as I like what I'm reading.

Quote from Lightmare
/\ This.
There was a year (when onemanga was onemanga) that I started reading LOT of shoujo. At the time I wasn't aware of BK, so I don't have then on any list (sadly). But my fav one at that time was [m]ai hime ai to hime goto[/m] (not sure if it is josei e_e, meh...). GF recomendation, she said I am like Jin-Nii (althrough I don't quite agree). Now, I am really enjoying Skip Beat.
But now I prefer manga with a lil more quality/maturity and what lightmare said, express what I fell about shounen. If the girl doesn't look like a total retarded bitch and the story is fine, I will surely read it.
I think most guys doens't like shoujo because when they bump on one, it's look totally retarded, with freaking eyes, and weh-weh bitch, and sparkles, and Main Male Character bumping on Main Female Character and falling in love with her for no f-ing reason, and non-realistic story that would make Stephanie Mayer be proud, is a total sterilizer of possible male shoujo fans, I don't blame them.

I am 19 and male. I used to read purely shounen and seinen until recently and I never read shojo thinking it would be terrible. Well I was wrong by miles and it is now the genre i mainly read. The reason I tried it was because I became disinterested with most shounen (there are exceptions such as OP) as the had awful character and plot development and usually would use a cool new move to distract you from it.
I find shojo tends to have a better character depth and i actually prefer the art greatly to shounen as it has sooo much more design put into it. My favorites by far are dawn of arcana, skip beat, maid sama, kimi ni todoke and akagami no shirayukihime as i adore the characters and the plot to each of these series. It annoys me so much when people slag of shojo without giving it a chance now as it has so many great series and I am not afraid to admit I read it.
________________ I am 19, Male and as you can tell by the name shojo is by far my favorite genre. My top 5 manga 1.Skip Beat! 2.Kaichou Wa Maid Sama 3.Kimi Ni Todoke 4.Akagami No Shirayukihime 5.Dawn Of Arcana |

i read pretty much everything but yaoi. Which includes shoujo and josei, in fact quite a few of my favorites are shoujo. Overall i read more shounen/seinen, but thats only because i tend to pull towards the comedy genre which is more frequent among them. imo there is absolutely nothing wrong with liking a genre that isnt specifically aimed at you.
(btw not saying shoujo is any less funny. i fricken love skip beat and quite a few others, but overall shoujo tends to lean towards more dramatic stuff. That in itself is nothing bad, but when im just killing time i usually read almost pointless comedies . That being said im also obsessed with romance, and for the most part shoujo completely owns that category[to emphasize, of the favs in my signature i think the top 3 romances are hana to akuma, usagi drop, and girl friends. which comes out to a 66% domination of my top 3 and probably a 70%+ domination of my top 10 since ill probably be removing threads of time.... girl friends just happens to be freakishly good for a seinen romance xD].... actually come close to yelling KYAA!! on quite a few occasions when reading shoujo... that last notion concerns me greatly x.x)

of-course, Yuri can be quite cute and interesting, Shonen can let you catch a glimpse at that little amount of juvenile cheerfulness that Lead us to want the good guy to win from to time to time, Josei can let you see the point of view of the mangaka regarding a serious relationship and Seinen might even make you reflect on your self from time to time, reading in different demographies is good for opening the mind, with any kind of literal work.
