As I myself have zero experience, and my problems with females are probably bad enough to be hopeless, please note I am giving advice based on observations only.

Every girl has a unique image of her 'perfect boyfriend'. For example, some girls like roses and chocolates on Valentine's Day, some girls would prefer a copy the latest video game, and some girls would prefer you get them nothing at all (I suppose that's the rarest of cases). I imagine the person in question does too. You should try to learn what your girlfriend's thoughts on the topic are, and follow those. No one else can tell you exactly what to do.

One piece of advice I can offer - listen to what they say when they think you are not listening. That's what they usually want the most.
