For some reason lately, I've been feeling strangely bitter. I'll start reading a manga with a beautiful romance and I know I would love the happy ending any other week or so but now I just want the female main lead to die, and I would like it so that it was the male lead's direct or indirect doing. Now, I don't want it where the guy doesn't really love her or anything but where he [i]is[i] in love with her but was somehow forced into doing her harm, ultimately resulting in her death. The main characters should not be dislikable, I want to feel as much pain as the male protagonists when she dies. I have examples of mangas where I've wanted the female lead to die not because I hate her or anything but because, well, I want to see the male lead in pain.

Recently I was re-reading Kamisama Hajimemashita and while before I loved the romance bewteen them, I enjoyed the scenes where the chick lead was in danger and Tomoe would be all worried, but I would have enjoyed it more had she died lol. Of course I don't think those incidents were Tomoe's fault but it made him aware of how fragile her existence was compared to his.

Superior - I read that a while ago so I haven't read the recent chapters but I in my mind I was hoping that the ending would go something like this. The demon chick and the hero are in love but due to the burden of his duty the hero slays her, even though it breaks his heart to do so... Though I doubt that it will end that way *sigh* -_-

I just read Migawari Hakushaku no Bouken and

there was a part in there where the female lead was in danger due to the superiors of the male lead plotting altogether and using her as bait and because he had to follow them, she was kidnapped and put in danger and almost killed because of him indirectly. Again I would have been much more saisfied had she died... Oh well.

I doubt there are many, if at all any, mangas like this but I figured it's worth a shot to find out.

Please and thank you!

Romeo x Juliet Only thing I can think of.
And you know it's tragic because it's based on Romeo and Juliet. o.o

Four Daughters of Armian
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
she knew she'll die and he has the capability to stop her but he didn't do it anyway.... also, some major characters, the second daughter was killed because her husband's jealousy towards her past lover. The first daughter dying because of a poison but her husband blames himself for not treating her better

Hot blooded woman
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
He almost got her killed when he tried to save her. Before that, he tried to make her got rape because he thought she's someone else. Also, the second man (the love rival) thought she's in coma because of him and got a little bit mad after it

and something close to that... maybe you've heard 100% Perfect Girl
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
someone who hate the man set up a plot so it seems that the female lead betrayed him. She then asked to do exactly as what the mysterious man said to clear her name but that will mean she could lose her life. The mysterious man then said I want you to feel the pain of causing her death or something like that. The mysterious man later on fell in love with the female lead and was devastated to see the consequences of his past deed. At one scene, she attempted suicide and he felt it's him who led her to do this and thus, the agony :eek:

Elfen Lied - although I wouldn't recommend this on its own merits.

On the other hand, if you wouldn't mind a series with a secondary character who fits this role, then I highly recommend Not Simple. Although it certainly doesn't qualify as "a beautiful romance," the character is quite shaken by the consequences of his actions.

Replay - she dies and indirectly it's his fault;
Renri no Eda - not his fault, but she still dies;
Canon - she almost dies a couple of times violently, and it's his fault;
Half and Half - not his fault, although she might have lived longer if it wasn't for the guy, anyway just try it;
