hello

recently with all genres I've been getting the same old cliche, whether it be shoujo/ shounen/ seinen/ josei/ sci-fi/ fantasy/gender bender/ yaoi etc. So I guess I've been looking for a manga that falls OUTSIDE of the typical story of a genre.

I guess what I'm trying to ask is suggestions for mangas with a non- typical plot, usually with a-typical characters. I'm finding it harder and harder to find these nowadays.

I hope I made that clear enough. It might be a vague description, but any suggestions would be appreciated.

Want different, try Mysterious Girlfriend X
Quote
One day, a strange transfer student appears before Tsubaki. Urabe Mikoto is an antisocial girl, whose hobby is just sleeping during class-breaks. One day, Tsubaki goes to wake her up and accidentally tastes her drool... And gets hooked on that!

After that, he starts going out with her and gets to know her better. Her second hobby, as it turns out, is carrying around scissors in her panties and cutting paper into flowers...

I would have to say NHK. Very not typical in my opinion.

[u]Skip Beat (the heroine isn't all sappy about death of her first love; she's angry and actually tries to do something about it that doesn't involve finding someone new)
Tokyo Crazy Paradise (the heroine is... all you have to do is read the summary. a normal shoujo would probably have her being protected even though she's the bodyguard because she's a woman, but this series ignores the physical limits of women that most manga can't wait to reveal)

Genshiken- like most slice of life genre manga, there aren't any guidelines. http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=2402

Katsu- It's a sports manga, more specifically a boxing manga that just kept surprising me. http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=92

Lolicon Phoenix
Rabuyan
My Balls

Hmm... Quite a bit of lolicon content on these but they are all quite far from the norm. My Balls has comparatively graphic adult content in particular.
