Well, its people who are drawing it...and the anime characters are usually straight to begin with. I dont have a problem with gay people, if thats what you were thinking.

Well, the point is that they're SOMEONE ELSE'S characters. If the manga-ka wanted to make them gay, s/he would - but if they're not gay, they're not gay. In my opinion, the problem is that they're trying to change something someone else created. If I were a manga-ka and someone changed my characters dramatically (and actually, anything strange attracts my dislike), I'd be furious.

And also, you can hate fanyaoi like I do (with a passion) yet not hate yaoi in general, or gay people at all. I like some shounen-ai manga. I've read as much yaoi as straight couple sex. Why does everyone assume that hating fan yaoi means we hate gay sex in general?
