I think it was originally about yaoi and why someone should/shouldnt like it and how its not just fangirls O.O and everyone is having their own little arguements.

How do you know if they are not gay?
Just because they have a canon, female crush, doesn't mean that he can't like guys too. Haven't anybody heard about bisexuality?
The character can state if he's straight, but does it really count? How many guys say they are hetero before coming out of the closet? There are many married guys who are in denial, and many gay guys try to date girls because they aren't comfortable with their sexuality.
I only take the character is straight, and straight only if the author says so. And even then, hello! People can change.
Let's take for example Cain, from kaori Yuki. Cain loved that cousin of him, and Kaori Yuki herself stated she was surprised of knowing people thought Riff was gay. And in the end, Riff and Cain fell in love.

Well, the point is that they're SOMEONE ELSE'S characters. If the manga-ka wanted to make them gay, s/he would - but if they're not gay, they're not gay. In my opinion, the problem is that they're trying to change something someone else created. If I were a manga-ka and someone changed my characters dramatically (and actually, anything strange attracts my dislike), I'd be furious.

Exactly, SOMEONE ELSE'S characters, not yours either. We don't know for sure what they want, and in my opinion, it's an advantage for them if fans make alternative pairings... I mean, marketing and stuff, it makes the series more popular. I think that most of them either don't mind it or had gotten used it. Of couse, that's just my opinion, I haven't talked to any mangaka or something...

And also, you can hate fanyaoi like I do (with a passion) yet not hate yaoi in general, or gay people at all. I like some shounen-ai manga. I've read as much yaoi as straight couple sex. Why does everyone assume that hating fan yaoi means we hate gay sex in general?
Heh. Topic. =D

By the same token, don't assume that everyone assumes that hating yaoi=hate gay sex. It's like regular porn, just because somoene don't like to watch it, doesn't mean they don't like it.

But I like the points that you made, it made sense to me eyes

Had someone reported the double posts yet? I think I read one of the mods (Stealth?) saying that if we find one, report it to make their job easier or something...

Exactly. The fandom I'm in is a pretty famous shounen series from JUMP, and the author was asked in one interview about yaoi.. Actually, pretty much all the questions that followed later were about it, and the author confessed that, even if his/her series was published in JUMP, it was aimed toward girls and he/she even had a yaoi pairing he/she liked, and his/her assistaints ofter talked about pairings and made doujins of his/her stuff. Those things are prone to happen sooner or later in fandom, and manga authors aren't generally that possessive.

I understand why someone would dislike such tampering with characters, but if it bothered a manga-ka that much, couldn't they just ban all fanfiction for that series?

Unless my friend was lying when she said that Anne Rice made all fanfiction of her vampire series illegal... Or something. ><;

But I think most writers/manga-ka like knowing that they have a large enough fanbase to warrant the creation of fanart/fanfiction, despite the pairings. (Of course, they would obviously disagree with many, but I think they might see it more along the lines of a) free speech and b) it's the thought that counts.)

But I dunno. I'm just kinda ranting now.

Whether people realize it or not, people unconsciously look for romance or a couple in a stories they are reading. Alot of time, their mind just choose 2 people that they want to make into a couple, whether these people are couples in the actual stories or not. I'm sure a lot of people have wish certain 2 people have become the couple, and not the actual couples in the story. You certain don't set out to wish that you will like some secondary character, instead of the main one. That's why there are fan-fictions that write about couples which are not couples in the stories.

I have come across some doujinshi of my favourite mangas which have couples parings which I extremely hate. I just don't look or read it, and I'm not going to look down my nose at people who favour that paring either because it's people's hobbies, likes and obsessions. If they can feed and express their likes and obsessions by writing, and drawing which hurt no one, then that's their choices.

Different people get different feelings and thoughts from reading the same book. We all have our own views. That's why my teacher always say there's no right answer in an English essay.

Ever heard of GetBackers? It's Shounen but there are many yaoi parings. Even 1 of the 2 male creators are known to like Yaoi. The anime even releases official images which even if you never think of Yaoi, you may wonder why the anime releases those images.

You know what annoys me more than random non-cannon yaoi pairings?
Off-topicness, double posts... I think I saw the worst kind of double posts yet... 6 posts in a row? you're really good ladyviollet...
So everyone (and particularly you ladyviollet) if you'd do me a favor... please read the rules ok?
Next time I won't even read... I'll just click delete... so much easier.

EDIT: Just had to remark that this thread alone generated 9 reports... I've never seen a thread reported as much. It's a bad sign for the thread. But a good sign for me, meaning more people are using the report feature.
