Have you ever felt like a manga is going on the right track, a beautiful developing relationship....then BOOM, some guy has to stick to the main lady like glue? It's all too well ruined many shoujos that I've read. I'm pretty damn sick of this "triangle" taking over the story because the mangaka got too tired to add some more interesting plot. And what's worse, some actually START with this love triangle. -_- Why does someone always have to fight over the lead female?

Examples: Vampire Knight, etc etc....I'm too tired. roll

WTF...I'm kind of the opposite actually. Whenever a new guy is introduced after a long developing relationship, I feel excited, because now the male lead will be given the chance to prove how much he love the girl - whether he'd fight for her, or let her go if she develops feeling for the other guy.

SERIOUSLY! Why the heck would you be soooo against it?!?! I understand it's too clique, but, correct me if I'm wrong, I assume you're a girl too, right? I mean, I'm not gonna LIE, but in a girl's perspective, doesn't it look romantic that more than one guy is attracted to the girl? even a little bit? I'm not saying she has to go to the cheating section. Geeze...

And, why does someone always have to fight over the female lead? ISN'T IT OBVIOUS!?! BECAUSE, once again, IT MAKES IT MORE F*CKING EXCITING AND GOD DAMN INTERESTING, FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!! It may not be interesting to you, but for most female audiences, it is. It gives more spice to the story, and of course, not make it BOOOORING where only good stuff happen to the couple. I believe that love can grow much stronger if they face challenges, such as, more commonly, the love triangle issue. Futhermore, a female lead is not ALWAYS the one who attracts two pairs of bishie eyes. There are times when another FEMALE would come along and lay her poisoning eyes on the male lead.
But, if you're tired of love triangle, why can't you just NOT read them. Especially Vampire Knight. I mean, you should've known better that it's going to be a love triangle somehow in the first place because of the oh-so-obvious front page, where there's only one girl, and there's like two guys in the background. And, seeing that it's a shoujo, of course love triangles are often expected. I'm just saying...

I didn't like the triangle in Lovely Complex, actually, and dropped it really quick. I share your sentiments, though. Often I find love triangles to be pretty annoying, and I feel like after the main couple has to slowly develop their relationship, a new third party can usually just weasel into somebody's heart in one or two chapters and gain enough trust (despite only ever acting sketchy and untrustworthy) to seriously jeopardize the relationship. And sometimes, girls or guys pop up in the past of leads who were implied not to have previous relationship experience.

Too many love triangles smack more of lazy writing than cliche!

My worst triangle is one OP already mentioned, Vampire Knight. It totally ruined the manga for me.

i agree
after a gazillion volumes you'd think the story is coming to an end
but no
someone has to come because the author cant think of any other way to keep the story going
sadly this kind of thing sells

i dont like love triangles.. too complicated.. then all the readers start arguing about who the chick should end up with -.- (even when its completely clear whos she's gonna choose)
Strobe edge is one example

Because, like xombie said, in those situations the main couple tends the lack depth in the relationship. I feel like it's mostly about who she's going to get with than how much they understand eachother. confused I get confused...like too much JEALOUSY.

There's one thing I dislike more than having a second 'love interest' character appear... That's having the lead fall in love with/tempted by that second character.
It's not that I truly dislike reading about a lead that has a romance arc with different partners, it's the fickleness that annoys me, wouldn't bother me as much if the 'old' relationship was first ended (peacefully), but sadly most of the times this is not the case.

For once, just pick someone and stay with him/her.
When reading a 'love' story I want to see the lead 'fall in love' with someone, slowly but steadily develop feelings for the love interest and stay 'true' to each other. (example: Clannad)
The moment one of the two starts falling in love with someone else is the moment I drop the story (or the incentive to read on must be strong enough).

Funnily enough, most of the seinen (haven't read that many shounen, but most of them also) manga I've read seem to understand this basic principle. Sure there sometimes are temptations, but that's about it... Pretty much all shoujo manga I've read involve triangles or other similar sappy clichés.
P.S. not talking about ecchi/harem manga... these suck by standard.

I hate love triangles where the other interest is clearly unwanted, and is just bugging the main girl. I ESPECIALLY despise it when the unwanted guy forces a kiss on the main girl. OMG WHEN THAT HAPPENS IT MAKES ME SO MADDD!!! AND IF THE GIRL'S FEELINGS GET SWAYED BECAUSE OF THAT, IT MAKES ME WANT TO KEEL HER!!!
But, other then that, I welcome love triangles where you don't know who is going to end up with whom like in Parfait Tic. (I was with Ichi until Iori came in, then I was for Daiya!)
I always root for the nice guy who is there to comfort the main girl when she is hurt by the main guy. T^T

The thing with me and love triangles is that if I feel attached to the main characters enough to actually care then I don't mind the triangles. If the male lead isn't some overly possessive idiot (or the female an extremely dense airhead mad ) then the triangle can result in various "jealous" looks of despair for him---if he's timid, yet somewhat open about it then the situation is made that much more bearable.

But,sadly very few shoujo mangas have actually managed to spark my interest much less the interest of the many love triangles.I hate it when:

1.There are one too many love triangles----right after you think one is over,oh here come yet another childhood friend! eek

2.The male becomes way too possessive and emo over the triangle deal----I mean, a little jealousy and possessiveness is cute, but when they're in excess it makes me feel like he should just hit the road until he calms down. no

I hate love triangles. They are complicated, uninterresting, annoying and unrealistic. There are some I liked but they far and few inbetween. Kaichou wa Maid-sama had one and it nearly ruined it for me but they got over that little hiccup thankfully. The only love triangle I can recall that I liked was Strobe Edge. I loved Andou. But thats about it.

I personnaly wouldn't mind if some mangas had love triangles, but, come on, it's becoming a plague!
Even though it is a way for the guy to 'prove' his love for the girl, but, then again, most of shoujo girls are the no-one-likes-me-because-i'm-weird-and-childish type... SO WHY ARE TWO DUDES FALLING FOR HER AT THE SAME TIME?!

(Plus, if the guy gets jealous over the other male, it may be 'oh-so-romantic', but it also means he has no trust in her girlfriend.)

( Yup, I counted, 10 of the 15 mangas I am currently reading have love triangles... Gimme a break.)

I enjoy love triangles... (whatever, shoot me...) Idk, I just do. It's fun, even if I know who he/she will end up with. It's stressful but it makes things interesting. (And sure, I hate it when the one I like doesn't get chosen, but whatever.)

I remember seeing somewhere that "If you fall in love with a second person, you should choose that one, because if you loved the first one you wouldn't have fallen for the second one!" Although I agree, we're only human, and some times we need to see what else is out there before realizing what we have is one of a kind! Sometimes you need to fall into the second one's arms to realize just how much you truly love the first one!

(And no, I'm not suggesting that everyone should test their relationships by cheating!)

Anyway, I for one like it. (I think the craziest one is Ichigo 100%! While I'm pretty sure who he's going to choose in the end, I honestly don't know! It drives me crazy but it's nice not to know for once!) I'm very devoted to my relationships - I'm not a cheater or player, never have been, never will be - so I guess it's just fun for me to see it (experience it through manga) without actually doing it. I don't remember the name of the manga, but I could only get through the first volume. The person that I assume was to be the main guy by the end of the series had a panda obsession so that's why I started to read the manga. The problem that I saw was that the girl had a crush on a guy one of the other guys she was living with who had a crush on this other girl who was taking care of this other guy and they either felt obligated to each other or liked each other. So the panda guy finds out he likes the female lead and that's the end of volume one, but there are several more with something along those lines going on. I think that love triangles are the number one sign of weak character building where the author depends entirely on a convoluted plot with no end in sight. I just can't read a manga that ends up with a love pentagon in the first volume and plans to let that stuff go unresolved for ten volumes or so.

I don't mind of some guy comes along and hits on the main girl, and it can be funny if someone has a complex towards someone else because that doesn't detract from the characters' personalities.

I can't think of a worst love triangle--there's too many.
As for best, I think it was probably Kanata Kara, because it actually served a purpose. As opposed to just delaying the plot, it helped the main guy realize his feelings for the main girl, and you knew that the other character was so minor that there wasn't a chance. He was barely there, and there was so little drama over it.
In other words, if you're going to have a triangle, don't make it the main focus of everything.

I prefer it without them, but sometimes they're fun. But if they're used too much, it's overkill, that's for sure.
