I am always on the look for new or potential series that i might like to read, Since most groups take on projects that are similar to the ones they are already doing(genre wise), most of the time i check the other projects of groups whose series i already follow. There is the option to "Hide" releases made by certain groups, could an option be made to "highlight" all the releases made by a group too? or instead of highlight, add a stand-outish icon by the name of the group like how a series on a person's reading list has an icon by it in the releases page.

My other suggestion is to add more list-types or icon options for lists. I use the system to the max right now. I at any one point am usually reading about 100 diffrent manga. So these as well as other titles end up in various lists and 4 icons is not enough cry
My lists:
Reading - the 100 or so series i am currently following.
Wish - Series that have not been scan'd that i want scan'd
Completed - Completed series that i read
Bookmark - Series or Oneshots that look interesting and might want to read later
Trial - Series i am reading but might want to drop them.
Unfinished - Dead or on hold series (series i read with no release in 90+ days)
Bored with - Series i am bored with, but keep track of just in case i might ever feel like reading them again.

but because there are only 4 icons, these lists kind of get grouped together.
Page: Reading
blue dot: Bookmark, Trial
clock: Unfinished, Bored with
check: Completed, Wish

The standard reading list icon in diffrent colors would be fine. I made these up real quick:
v1 User Posted Image
v2 User Posted Image Favorites List - (for me) would be my top 10, which would be something i would link to.
User Posted Image Trial list
User Posted Image Dead Series (unfinished)
User Posted Image i like pink biggrin maybe bookmark list
User Posted Image GOLD!
User Posted Image v2 Better Gold
Feel free to use these icons smile wink grin Adding all my lists together and that is ALOT of diffrent manga lol. When i check the release page i read the names of all the series with the read list symbol and then decided which to go grab first, so it would be nice to beable to just scroll down the list and spot my favorite or wishlist series right away biggrin

EDIT* I just thought of this, and i dont even know if it is possible, its just an idea. But maybe anything in your "reading list" that you give a rating of "10" will show up on the release page with the gold icon biggrin

highlighting releases by group: I think this sounds like a good idea; it'd be a nice complement to the hide by group feature. The problem is how to do it: Highlighting would be problematic because there is already highlighting by genre, so there might be conflicting colors (an issue which has not been worked out yet). Icons will be problematic too because there are already list icons beside the releases. For a second I thought changing the text color might be good, but that would conflict with genre highlighting too, because there are so many highlight colors that no matter what color the text is changed to, there'll be problems with text readability. I can't think of a good alternative right now...

more lists/icons: Resolving the confusion would be great for all the users have run into this problem. I think making different colors for icons is the best solution (by which I mean the easiest solution to implement that still solves the problem). Actually, I had that exact same idea and suggested it earlier this year (not in the forum, though). Extra explanation is in the box--skip if you don't care:
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The reason why I think different colors works best (as opposed to making new types and/or new icons) is because the list types and icons were designed to work as a pair--picking the list type sets the icon. So if we made new icons, we should think of new list types, which is quite difficult because beyond the basic types that are common to most everyone, people have all sorts of different ideas about list types. But most people will still have more than one list sharing the same icon, so the problem (to resolve that confusion) is only partially solved, because it's impossible to implement a new list type for every list type people can think of--that would be ridiculous. If we make new icons without making new types, then we might as well get rid of the "picking list type sets icon" system altogether and switch the select type drop-down menu on the custom lists page to one with just icons. And also pick some new icons to use, of course. Which is doable, but seems like a lot more work than just making more colors.

As for how to implement it, this was my idea that I sent in with my colors suggestion a few months ago: "As for where to put it on the user CP, maybe there could be in a fourth column called "icon color" on the custom lists tab, and it could be a drop-down list? For each list, it could be set to the list type's original color by default, and then changed if the user wants to." Making set images of each icon in some basic colors (like ROYGBV) would probably be easiest.

marking rated-10 series: Hmmm, probably not. I don't think it would hurt and it would look cool, but it doesn't seem important and sounds difficult to implement.

umm, yeah I suggested this a while back as well, and my way of simply bolding the released series and/or the group name is the best way to go for highlighting groups, and yeah there's a lot of people that have favorite groups so it'd be cool....not to mention the more icons, though it's not really hard to make small simple icons for user created lists, and much better then having to remember the colors for which list is which

I did not know there was a highlight option already. and i cant seem to find it. where would i go to set that up and try it?

since i dont know what the highlight by genre thing looks like yet, i cant really give any suggestions for it, but what about having an icon for watched group releases that appears in the "group" column of the releases page.

You have Title, release, and groups columns on the releases page, and list icons appear in the title column, could "watched" groups get an icon in the "groups" column?

and as for icons, I do think it would be much simpler if you could pick an icon to assign your list(s) instead of picking a list type. I thought abot it more, and the whole reason i did not want to throw away the "list-type" this is because each type actually does something. But when i think about it, it may just be easier to make a generic list with multiple icons available to assign it.

This is how each lists looks on a series page:

This series is in your Reading List list.
You are reading this. ( up to v.1 c.74 +10 -5 ) Remove or Move to

This series is in your BlueSpot list.
You decided not to finish this series. Or maybe I will...

This series is on hold. Move to reading list or move to:

This series is in your GreenCheck list.
You have completed this series Or maybe not... Move to:

Generic option:
This series is in your <name> list.
(Read up to v.1 c.74 +10 -5 ) "Completed" or Remove or Move to [-----]

Instead of "you are reading this... up to v.1 c.1" i would changed it to "Read up to" because it still tells you what you have read up to, and even if that series is on a "on hold" list it would still be good to know what chapter you were on if you ever continue it. I would also add a Completed option to the chapters part. That way you have the option to put it in a completed list, or just leave it in 1 list if you dont feel like having multiple lists. then when its checked for completed, it shows: (You have completed this series Or maybe not...) and "Or maybe not" resets it back to (Read up to v.1 c.1 +10 -5)

"marking rated-10 series: Hmmm, probably not. I don't think it would hurt and it would look cool, but it doesn't seem important and sounds difficult to implement."

That is what i was thinking, i was just tossing the idea out there because i thot it sounded cool biggrin

It's in the user CP, you just click on the one that says "Release Filtering." You can filter and highlight releases by genre with it.

Ah, that's a good idea.

You can see the status (vol # and ch # you have read) in reading, unfinished, and on hold type lists--but for the last two, you have to go to the my lists section and look at status there to find it.

Yes, I do! Except right now I don't know how (I plan to learn sometime in the near future), so... for now this is just a dream.

Funny how that works, actually. Me and monkey have been planning on working on individualized RSS feeds for a while, but we've both been too busy to get to it.

I was just making a compilation list header, merging all the lists into a single type i mean.

anyway, thx or the tip. i found the highlight option and its pretty cool and useful. I can at least use it to pop out the genres most in common with most the series i read. and filter out the stuff i dont. *cough*yaoi*cough*

I dont expect this to actually get made, i just thought it was a cool idea i would toss out there. its more of an expansion on my idea of any series you rate a 10 gets a gold icon instead of regular. but now that i am typing it out and trying to think of how to word it, i am liking it less and less lol.

anyway... Its pretty redundant...actually now that i really think about it, i think its impossible, or just really really hard and would be to annoying to do. I was thinking of a Top10 list that can only have 10 series in it at any given time. and have a ranking system or showing what the most common series in everyone's top 10 is.

but like i said, thinking about it, i guess its kind of redudant since there is a number ranking system and a list compilation system that shows how many people have whatever series in their "reading list" not to mention trying to figuring out some kind of scoring system for a top10 list.

i probablly should just not have made this post, but since i took the time to type it... i am submitting it anyway bigrazz
