Hello, I'm looking for manga which fit three things:

1- It should tell the "story" of a school class (or a close group of friends, but related to school. So it needs to have a decent amount of characters).
2- It should have a balance in the gender of people involved (similar amount of male and female characters). So no stuff like K-on! or Magister Negi Magi.
3- No "boring to death" shoujo with the same polygonal love thing (girl A loves guy A who loves girl B who loves guy B who loves girl A). There aren't many shoujo I like and I'm willing to follow one only if it doesn't follow that usual pattern and it's truly fitting the 2 points above.

Comedy is preferred, but I don't mind about what happens (maybe just not too much randomness). There could be (or not be) romance, mystery, deaths, no plot at all, etc. I don't mind much as long as it follows those 3 points.
I can't think of many examples, but Need a girl is a fine one of what I want (despite the summary, it revolves around 4 males and 3 females students). Probably Iris Zero too (maybe too much female oriented? I don't really recall it well). GTO would be fine too, but I prefer if the people involved would all be of the same "status" (= all students). Toradora! would barely fit (it seems a little too unbalanced to female characters to me). School Rumble fits, but it's not a manga I really enjoyed. Also I suppose Onani Master Kurosawa fits, but I really disliked that manga.

Sorry for the long explanation and thx in advance.

kare kano perhaps ? smile
-school life
-multiple side characters...all characters get enough screen time(even the parents ! )
-zero love-triangle-drama...no love rivals whatsoever...instead it focuses on other things like family, friends and each character's problem

another one is Ef - A Fairy Tale of the Two watch the anime, its my favourite smile

edit : give kare kano another chance..i too didnt find it interesting at the beginning but it got better..especially the last 6 or 7 volumes

I saw the anime and read it (and dropped it when things wasn't interesting anymore at least for me).
Thank you anyway.

Sayonara Zetsubou-sensei and Katteni Kaizo were the first that came to mind, but they might have too much randomness laugh
Sket Dance also fits, I think.

Sayonara Zetsubou-sensei is about an all female class, so it's a perfect example of what I don't want.

I'll try Katteni Kaizo.

Do you know if Sket Dance manga is any better than the anime? Because I dropped the anime after 1 episode for being terrible.

What about something like Lucky Star? It's focusing on girls, though, so you may not think the boys have enough screen time even though it is just a normal class. And Azumanga Daioh will have too many girls for your preference.

I suppose something like Angel Beats, maybe? I'd check the anime out if I were you.

Maybe Yanki-kun to Megane-chan?

...Sorry, I think I read mostly shoujo. I'll edit this if I can think of something.

Genkaku Picasso Classroom setting and equal amounts of both genders.
Chronicle of the Clueless Age (kinda) At first, it doesn't really seem to relate to school, but it eventually ties in with the classroom...

Second this!
This series is the best... it's so incredibly funny.

I'm passing on Lucky Star/Azumanga Daioh for the same reasons I said I don't want something like K-on!. Same reason for stuff like Minami-ke, Yuruyuri, etc. those are mostly "cute girls doing cute things". Don't get me wrong, it's not that I dislike that, it's just not what I want at the moment (and anyway I already watched the anime of both).

I watched Angel Beats anime, thanks.

I dropped Yanki-kun after the first volume (really boring for me), it's not fitting my taste. Maybe I've not been very clear about this, but I'd like something where there isn't a distinguish between main and secondary characters (and in Yanki-kun there are clearly two main chars and some secondary, at least at the start).

Thanks for your suggestions anyway.

Genkaku Picasso seems interesting, too bad there are only 4 chapters out and last one is from 2 years ago. I'll put the other one in my wish list for the moment. Thanks for your suggestions.

I have no idea since I haven't watched the anime. I thought it was a bearable shounen, but then again I thought the same about School Rumble, so it probably doesn't count xD

Btw I just thought of another one: Futatsu no Spica. Again, it is not about a whole class, but rather a close group of friends.

Thanks for the specification.

I saw the anime of Spica, quite good. I'll put the manga in the wishlist hoping one day it'll be continued with the scans. Thanks anyway. smile

If someone has more recs, keep them coming, thank you.

Honey and Clover? Granted, I watched the anime (2 seasons)... and it's josei... and it's slow for the first 2-3 episodes (due to introductions), but if you enjoy slice-of-life, unrequited love, coming-of-age stories, this one's highly recommended by me. biggrin It's funny. It's sad. It's thoughtful. It's heart-warming.

Thanks very much, but that's another title whose I watched the anime and didn't like it. It's strange you guys keep mentioning anime I saw (I didn't watch that many). dead
