I usually avoid shounen like the plague, but I know there are some pretty good ones out there. i.e. Fullmetal Alchemist, Ranma 1/2, etc.
But the only shounen manga I like, other than Naruto, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Hunter x Hunter, are the ones written by females. It's usually because of the fanservice in shounen manga were the females always seems to have huge breasts, wear ridiculously short short skirts, are overly weak / slutty, and always seems to catch glimpse of the girl's underwear or breasts every chapter. I might be exaggerating but we all know it's pretty much the truth. Even if the story for the shounen is good, if females are portrayed like this, I get really turned off.
So, I believe, although not always true, that shounen written by females are ones that I can thoroughly enjoy.
So name all the shounen with female mangaka you know. I'd also really like it if it has a romantic subplot to it.
If you know some good shounen written by men that is really good that won't tic me off. You can list those too.
Thank you.

Hmmm...I can probably tell you a few from the top of my head.
Maybe you can try D. Gray Man? There's also Samurai Deeper Kyo and Code: Breaker, where the author who might actually be a girl. The person use to be an assistant to Rumiko Takahashi (Ranma 1/2, Inuyasha) and there's Ao no Exorcist, Katekyo Hitman Reborn, Nabari no Ou (though I'm not sure if that's considered shounen), but yea that's all I have right now. I hope that helps

Kuroshitsuji... you can fangirl over all of the pretty men on there. XD Story wise, I think it starts getting interesting around Volume 2.
There are seinen written by females. You may enjoy these --
Otome Youkai Zakuro (this really feels like shoujo with action thrown in)
Emma (historical romance)
3-gatsu no Lion (shogi, anyone?)
Not Simple (tragic... but satisfying)
Though I haven't read it... this looks like it has potential: Blood Alone

Smash!
Karin
Yanki-kun to Megane-chan
Hetakoi (Seinen)
Arakawa Under the Bridge (apparently this is Seinen too, though I'm not sure why. Maybe because they portray smoking.)
Ichigo 100%
Anedoki
Hatsukoi Gentei (this and the two above all done by same mangaka)
Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle (done by a team of women)
Edit: Mahoraba (written by a man, but feels like a woman )

This I second Ao no Exorcist, D.Gray-man and Katekyo Hitman Reborn! - really cool shounens frome female mangakas ^^
You should albo try Erementar Gerad, Pandora Hearts (really crazy and interesting story!) and Magico (IWAMOTO Naoki) (I've got a feeling you will like this one ^^)

Karin (more comedy, seconded) and Hekikai no Aion (more action) from Kagesaki Yuna are both a good choice.
Other shounen written by women: Superior, Vampire Juujikai (it's written by a male, but drawn by a female. I also think it has appeal to female audience), Zombie-Loan, Hikaru no Go, Toradora! (don't let be fooled by the image on this site), Watashitachi no Tamura-kun (there is a bit of ecchi in this).
Other shounen written by men but also enjoyable for females (imho): Chrno Crusade, Gunslinger Girl (only if you can bear tragedy and deeper stuff), [m]Yotsubato[/m].
And just my two cents, I know Kawashita Mizuki (Ichigo 100%, Anedoki) is a woman, but her shounen are definitely something you want to avoid if you don't want ecchi stuff, they're probably "worse" than most male's shounen.

I second Pandora Hearts and Ao No Excorcist. {Pandora Hearts has a very twisted/complicated/awesome story though, so beware ]}
Crimson Shell is also by the same mangaka as Pandora Hearts, and try CLAMP's shounen list :3

Second xxxHoLic.
1/2 Prince
Legend of the Sun Knight
Chocolat (Kubonouchi Eisaku)
Darren Shan is written by a guy, but there's no ecchi.
No. 6 is classified as shoujo, but it gives off a shounen feel as well.

Kyou kara ore wa!! might work actually... think he's male but the chicks are standard japanese chicks, with exception to a few who can handle their own probs... romance is kinda similar to yuyus or fmas... not much happens but its still sweet. Only thing to look out for is the art takes getting used to but its a mistake to ignore it because of that, rly rly funny. Other than that scroll up o,o and maybe down soon... I'm out <_>. Btw its not my fault if u convert to mitsuhashism by the end.... lord mitsuhashi rulez too much for the human brain to handle xp.
