I agree with the original poster.

Keep the NSFW genres filtered by default, and maybe have a [show all] button for people to see everything.

Personally, I think this would be a great service to casual users.

NSFW topics on the front page was one thing, this would potentially be barely useful to just plain useless.

Any monkey with half a brain could find porn on the net, theres no real reason to restricting the ecchi stuff on the releases page since if they really wanted to find it there would probably be no problems in finding the stuff they want.

As to the options concerning CP:
1) It counts on the person having an acct with mangaupdates and unless the admins want to block off all ecchi releases to the general public and restrict it to only those who hold accts, I can't see this getting anywhere. Frankly it smacks of elitism and doesn't sit very well with me.

2) Auto flilter on with a op-out option suffers from the same fact that other open-minded (for lack of a better word to slot in) can and will be semi IT-illiterate and not fully utilise the options of the CP. They might even realise that it is auto-filtering the releases and may not realise the existance of the the scanlation groups doing these projects.

Frankly I feel this has the potential to cause more mayhem than good in that casual users might suddenly find some projects 'disappearing' and teams suddenly going off the air as their releases are being filtered.

Indeed, Forceflow. Very nice argument there.

Fabreeze, I don't think the original poster makes a good point at all. Why should it be filter out? He don't read the label. And just download on spur and ask people: "Why there is no warning when I download it?". Putting yourself in real life, when you go to the bookstore, you pick up a Playboy magazine and go to the cashier. Will he confirm with you: "Hey buddy! This is a 18+ magazine, are you sure you wanna buy it?". It is simply out of questions. No cashier will. The magazine has an Adult tag on it. And you don't bother read it? Why complain?

And let just say, we put a warning on it. Tell me it is annoying to get through an additional step of reading the warning line when you want to download it. Sacrificing the convenience of a bigger population to help a few blokes who can't simply read the label isn't going anyway.

all u need to do is click on title in the release section, then it gives u information about the release, including the genre. if u dont know what it is dont click "DL", simple. i think its unfair for the scanslation group's hard worked release to be hidden. there is already a filtering option, also another easy way is just to not give an instant mirror to adult releases.

Good GOD! roll
I just can't comprehend the way people worry about adult content. Just leave it as it is, for heavens sake! This is the INTERNET! Every single user here has begun reading scanned&translated manga on his PC and most likely has found a favorite program to do so. Your average tech-ignorant person isn't even using this site...
And in all honesty: I was watching porn way before I turned 18, and I really don't think I'm damaged for live. If you're 18 and manage to surf the internet WITHOUT ever seeing porn: Wow. Not bad... I wouldn't know how to do it.
Stop being idiots! If you don't want to read it, don't download it! If you're so ultra sensitive that even seeing H content scares you: Filter it! Don't come screaming about how easy it is to get your hands on porn... Ever heard of google? If you know how to use that (and EVERYBODY does), it's much easier to download porn than find the next best scanlation group.

PS: I don't think the OP is under 18. I have NEVER seen anyone underage complaining about how easy it is to bypass restrictions...

how could your mom and dad, sister's kid accidentally clicked it, if you filtered it out and stay logged.

Yar, this is a non-issue.

Frankly, I don't think there should be DL links for ANY releases. Make people actually go out there and explore the scanlation world to get their releases. Visit their web sites, check out their IRC channels, maybe even speak to the staff! *gasp*

But I digress.

By the way, I am under 18 (born 1992). I just happen to live with my parents who already watch my internet access and would prefer go not to see what kind of manga I downloaded with my mom right behind me and find out it's porn. I just want at least a warning or something. Also, I'm one of those students people hate for snitching (I wasn't the one who told them to cheat on a test I studied three hours for.

FYI - I hate you for snitching. I doubt you ever snitched on me, but I hate you just the same. Snitches get stitches.

But in the description of manga, there are categories, so you can know BEFORE dling, is it a porn/hentai/yaoi/yuri/smut. Simply read the labels and you'll know what to dl, and what not. And c'mon, you always read the description before, right?

I don't see a point in that filtering, it would only add more work for Manick. We all have eyes, we can read what genre the manga is. Then simply click or not.

Not all groups have all those, some have none of those.

This really isn't an issue, the internet isn't some place to just click "download" for the heck of it. There's no auto downloading as soon as the release page is loaded, so if you lack the personal judgement to use the internet safely, you really should reconsider your habbits before it really gets to you.

I think the hentai releases should stay. It's not like the cover shows any nudity of anything...and hentai is just a genre. If the shoujo releases were filtered (to those shoujo fans out there, or any genre that you like) wouldnt it suck?

People clicking the links are their own doing. Satisfy their own curiousity why don't they? You have to learn about that kind of stuff sooner or later...

I vote no filtering. If you REALLY want to filter it, then do it yourself (since it IS your preference), don't make other people who does read those kind of mangas wonder what the heck happened to all the hentai releases because they've all been filtered...

all the people who have supported no filtering above, woot! Ty. *agrees with them*

1. There are labels. Those who don't want to read hentai shouldn't download it. 2. Underage people who want hentai will find it despite the filters. So filters aren't necessary cos the labels are already a good warning signal to the wary and filters won't stop the determined

i feel that you should take responsibility for yourself, if you need a babysitter you should have some one set up the filters for you.
