this is somewhat disappointing, I've was really excited when I found out that this oneshot would get a series. but after reading chapter 1, It just seemed sub-par compared to the oneshot and it doesn't have the same feel that made me feel interested. granted they made the story more open to future ideas but it feels like a dumb down version of the oneshot.
I just hope this series improves, for the sake of the mangaka too.

I, too, found it disappointing...
Coming from a long time Komi Naoshi fan, I really saw a 180 degree turn from his usual, unique style. The oneshot for Nisekoi wasn't all that glamorous. The art was very different from Komi Naoshi's usual awesome style and the plot was extremely hackneyed. That was okay though; I'll can still take that mess. But this first chapter really ticks me off. The art is almost a complete deviant from his style and the plot. I really would not be able to tell that it was from that wonderful mangaka if I didn't know before hand. The art is so... Unoriginal and plain and I don't even want to talk about the plot... What happened to the person who created Double Arts and Island (KOMI Naoshi)? Nisekoi (KOMI Naoshi) is just a regular SJ series now.
It wasn't a good change. I thought this change was for the bad. I really wish Jump would stop forcing good mangaka to turn into such horrid messes. So much for Bakuman's "original manga > mainstream in SJ!" bs. Komi Naoshi was completely original until SJ did this to him...

I actually liked the oneshot. It was hilarious and interesting. I read it a couple of times and still found it interesting.
But after reading chapter 1, I was kind of disappointed. Yes, I think double arts is much better.

lol, I did a review on the One-shot. Didn't give it a bad rating at all because Naoshi submitted a decent piece in Nisekoi. But yeah, the serial version is just too bland.
In this stage, we can guess it'll last 20+ chapters, but still has some room for improvement. We'll see.

I would have to agree with everyone else. The one shot was great, not double arts but still good. The serialization though I feel lost much of what made the one shot great. i like the fact the main characters had a long history going into the one shot and had not just met or reunited without remembering each other if that is the case at the beginning. I also don't like the second girl possibly being the girl from the past it ruins the connection from the one shot.
That being said I will still read the next few chapters to see if I will continue reading. I really hope it picks up because Double Arts was great.

I disagree completely, to be honest. The whole "wow this is the girl I knew when I was a little kid and now I'm falling for her! TWU WUV!" is so painfully overdone and cliche, especially in manga, and I was happy to see Naoshi take a slightly different angle on it. Then again I also can't stand the first love = only love cliche either, so you can take that with a grain of salt.
I think it's a bit too early to say whether it's objectively worse than the one shot or not. Personally I'd say the quality is more or less equal so far; it's just different, that's all. There's nothing wrong with editing or tweaking stories, and he might have just changed his mind about it or gotten some constructive feedback after the one shot got published. That's just how writing works. Besides, now that there's a serialization he can afford to take it a little slower and develop things more extensively than he would if it was just a one shot.
(I don't really understand where you guys are coming from with the art either, because I've read most of his stuff and I can still look at the serialized version and think, "Yup, that's Naoshi Komi.")

I'm not really familiar with the other works from this author, but I definitely agree with switchgear, the story from the oneshot has been completely ruined. The only thing which has really remained is that they're forcing the heirs from the two clans, who hate eachothers guts, to date to keep the peace. And I did give this a chance, I really did (even though I don't really like love triangles) and I hated it.
The part about the lock and key was already very cliche and just altogether ridiculous, but the part which really did it for me was that he didn't even remember who he made the promise to... x.x I mean, how stupid can you get? Even in shoujo it's hard to get away with such a stupid concept =.= I finished the first two chapters, but it didn't improve, so I'm definitely not reading this.
The charm of the oneshot was the depth to which the two disliked eachother, it had been like that for years and as it turned out with a good reason (I think that good reason is lacking in the series). There was plenty to expand and continue on in the oneshot, it could've taken longer for them to find out what happened and at the end of the oneshot it's quite clear that even though the misunderstanding has been cleared their relationship definitely hasn't been fixed yet. There would even have been plenty of space for a love rival too.
The story of the oneshot was just much more charming, wish he hadn't changed it so much...

I agree it is a sad fall from its earlier status. Its kinda like all the author did was make the characters less interesting, and then inject the love hina plot.... twas a horrible continuation so I placrd it under complete in my list, and ignore the serialization.

I guess he is running a test.
If he makes something good and it's rejected (Double Arts), perhabs the other possibility is more promising. So he tries to make something mediocre (Nisekoi) to check if something has to be not good to be approved by JUMP readers >.<
sounds reasonable right?
But I still love all the expressions he gives his characters, at least this is still good as always
