I've recently finished watching the anime and I've found the story quite interesting. I'd like to read the rest of it, but seeing as it's still ongoing I'm worried that this might be a waste of time.

I've learned that some predict manga will end around 50 vol., so that might take about 10 years. Well that sucks, but I'm used to that kind of waiting. What's worrying me the most is the quality of recent works - is it still good? I'm absolutely new to manga, never read anything before, but I know that many long going series of traditional novels really worsen with time, if author doesn't have everything planned about the story and discipline do to everything according to that plan. Does Kentaro Miura have such a plan and discipline? Or does he make up new arcs, because Berserk will sell anyway? Does he even want to end it? Can he do it with style? Is the information about ~50 novels still valid?

I mean it doesn't really make much sense to read a story if it has no ending, does it?

I really can't look for these informations myself, there are spoilers everywhere...

I don't know if it will ever end, but it doesn't really matter to me. The quality keeps up (for the most part), and it is just as enjoyable as the start. Some things are a bit obvious (because after 300+ chapters you know how the author thinks, and can guess what he's gonna do next), but there is still an element of mystery to keep you guessing. I would recommend reading the series with no hesitation -- it's so much better than the anime.

I've felt that about some other series, or to be more precise - I wished they'll never end. Although IMO good ending is always better than prolonging series without inspirations. But I'm glad that Berserk is still good.

As for the other questions. There might be small hint about ending time. I've read that new Berserk movies will be made for the next 10 years, that will be the time when 5x volumes of manga will be released. If the movies are supposed to cover the whole manga that might mean that at the time last movie will be out the manga will be completed. I'm just guessing, but it makes some sense.

Well as long as what's written is good I don't see why it matters if there is an ending. Sure, it would be nice but it wouldn't make what I've already read pointless. For instance, Shenmue and Shenmue 2 are two of my all-time favorite games but Shenmue 2 ends on a cliffhanger and Shenmue 3 most likely will never be made. However, I'm still happy I've played the first two and have played them multiple times since. To me it's not about the ending but how you get there.

We just dont know when it will end
i dont think the mangaka even knows

i mean this is his life work...his day job
this is what he knows and hopefully likes to do
and since it have become so ...successfull
why would he want to end it
its not likely that he can make another series this popular
and he most likely need money to survive[and he probably have taken up alot of expensive hobbys that need a constant flow of money]
and we dont want to see a berserk seinen 21 days...coz that would just be toooooooo sad

To be fair
after the witch joined the party ALOT have changed
i think mostly for the better but...its a very diffrent manga than it was before
and i dont like the sudden change to one of the main girls...goes from a borderline insane, controling and nympho character
to a quiet and passive good girl in less than 2 chapters

i have not read anywhere that they plan on making berserk movies for 10 years
the mangaka and or the animation studio might just have said it...coz it sound better than 2years....12years...14years...3years...8years ...whatever
and if the first couple of movies fail hard they will just end the movie series right away
so i dont think they can or are even going to try and perdict something like this to make it fit with the creators idea of when he is going to end it

After reading the manga (I've finished it about 2 months ago) I'm sure that this will not end soon. And that doesn't matter much because, as you said, this is a different story now. I've enjoyed first 20 volumes (minus Golden Age (which was good as well)) the most .

Well I don't want to write another review, as I've already wrote lengthy piece in other language, but just to say it in few words: volumes 20+ are more or less mediocre. Berserk isn't as dark as it used to be, and without that it's just a story about guy with cliche goal cutting hordes of monster with big sword, and his friends. Although I like new Hawks, main apostles are very interesting, as they don't seems to be very grey. Also the world is very incoherent.

Still it's a decent dark fantasy adventure story.

It won't end the fan base is just too huge to the point where the mangaka doesn't need to draw any new stories and hes still fine. Berserk is even getting another animation.

Better question is, "Will Bleach, Naruto or One Piece EVER END?"

Hero's journey never truly ends.

It ends with their death, except those retarded stories where people don't die if they are killed.

Bleach and naruto ofcourse are going to end with the way the stories are progressing bbut onepiece is forever dont u forget that. ONE PIECE!!!!!!!

Berserk will end when it ends. I see the author pushing out 200 chapter in the future with no sweat. of course that depends on if he doesnt die first. with the way he goes on extended hiatuses with seemingly no reason

chapter 328 changed the rules a little

so we are going to just revisit guts youth
NOW?
we want story development NOT more scenes of needless violence

makes me think that the mangaka dont know how to proceed with the real story
and this is going to be a couple of chapters[maybe volumes] of more violence fro violence sake
this should have been done A LONG TIME AGO

if he can just pull this sort of shit whenever he feels like it then this manga is never getting a planned ending

The new movie is Golden Age Arc is already been shown in first Berserk series. The new Movie is just like a remake of the series nothing new

I dont know what you mean...

I was only talking about chapter 328 of the manga
they just went back to guts childhood and gave us a "new" story from his past

thats sort of thing dont usualy happen in japanese comics...much more popular in mini series and sometime when new guys start their run in american comics

[iknow that the movies are just a retelling of the popular golden age arc]
it would have been so much nicer if they had had the balls to actually animate some later parts of the manga instead of the ever so popular golden age arc THAT was handled better in the tv show anyway
