Can someone please explain why all of a sudden hentai artists are doing mainstream series? First Shouji Sato with HSOTD, then Takeda Hiromitsu with Maken-Ki!, now DISTANCE with that series about the manga artist?
All series by hentai mangaka are just boring ecchi crap, so what's the point of even making a non-H series in the first place? I could understand if they were doing a mainstream series to work on something new and original unrelated to their hentai work, but their series are EXACTLY LIKE their hentai work, just without sex, so why don't they just make more hentai series in the first place? At least THAT way, you'll be getting actual sex out the deal.

I actually don't read hentai or aynthing, but just because you don't like them doesn't mean other people don't either. Sheesh. Go read something else then.
Edit: And from what I know, people actually enjoy reading High School of the Dead.
Also, this is how I see it. It's good to have variety, so good for those artists who want to work on something else for a change!

She might simply be annoyed that her favourite hentai mangakas are producing ecchi instead. Seems like a valid (if subjective) complaint.
That said, nobody should really tell authors what they can and can't work on.

No, it's still a pointless complaint considering they still release their normal H works anyway.

Maybe these mangaka figured they'd get paid more by making something that can be sold to a larger age demographic. It usually works for Hollywood movies, don't see why it wouldn't work for manga. And another thing, the mangaka you picked out are not the first nor will they be the last to go from hentai to more mainstream material. Look at Ken Akamatsu and Oh! Great. They're both very well known now that started out doing h doujin. Granted, I think Oh! Great's hentai was better than his non-h stuff plotwise. He's just better suited to writing short, compact stories. Despite that, I'm glad someone like him made the move.

u know air gear mangaka did harcore hentai in his early days... of course air gear is very ecchi but in a good way. the mangaka for pokemon also started with hentai. who cares about the past as long as the mangaka produce awesome stuff. same goes for crappy stuff. charlie sheen was great comedian once but his last act sucked therefore he is a crappy comedian... too soon?

I think the reason why H-mangaka even start drawing hentai in the first place is to set their foot in the manga world. It's just their starting point, from which they hope to continue to mainstream manga that would reach a wider audience.

I think you have a really good point here, but I thnk you should also look at the amount of H-manga they had produced before doing normal manga. everyone mentioned, except oh! great, did a lot of h-manga which I think was more than enough to get their foots in the door (exspecially Takeda Hiromitsu).
This is just somthing that I noticed, but out of the people that were mentioned (and to my biggest surprise since I just looked at all the artist) oh! great has the least amount of h-manga but one of his stories (air gear) that I read does become h-driven down the line. and takeda hiromitsu has the most and he just produced a generic ecchi series that's getting a bit more interesting (to me anyway) since I do love weak to strong manga.
how air gear became more h-driven.....
Spoiler (mouse over to view) I think it was around the time they had to get stronger gear or syncronize with the regalia or something, anyway they reveiled that this had to be done by having the mechanic or whatever they are called have sex with the rider/skater while wearing some kind of special skin tight suit that was supposed to allow the mechanic to know exactly how to tune the gear for the rider/skater. so, I don't know how much those h-manga inspired him but this is definatly a good idea for an h-manga not for normal manga (unless it's adult manga then maybe).

Well actually the hentai-manga artist tend to write MUCH more realistic story than some half-assed ecchi ones...especially the romantic part,relationships...hero's and heroine's reactions and such...no stupid nosebleeds...no pushing-naked-girl-from-the-bed parts...realistic decisions, words and actions! for example Kanojo no Kagi wo Akeru Houhou or Kono Oneesan wa Fiction desu!?

If High School of the Dead wasn't just ecchi, had all of it's storyline and action and all of that just that some of the ecchi scenes were replaced by sex scenes, well it'd be simply more 'enjoyable' shall we say... The same goes for the majority of other ecchi mangas produced by hentai artists, if they could just make a manga that isn't hentai but isn't ecchi, something in between (otherwise known as "Adult") it would just be soooo much better... Quit thinking about how ecchi is bad or how hentai artists should stick to hentai, just think about how the ecchi series that they make could be improved (for example as previously said, by changing it from just ecchi to adult).
I myself find Ecchi to be very annoying, and as someone said before "Don't like it? Don't read it" well that is exactly what I do, or rather don't do. I don't read ecchi specifically because it irritates me, it has "fanservice" without anything further, and fanservice is more like fanslapper to me. (It provides panty shots and maybe the edges of boobs, however nothing ever actually happens, leaving me disappointed that their relationship could not progress.)

Quote from Pupok kind do late .. but can you explain what you mean by that is it that one is good and the other is bad or do you mean that the two are good? because the two have authors that also did Adult stuff so i don't get what you want to say...
