There just isnt much stuff in here. There is limited amount of materials to explore
after 3 years of yaoi fanship, I already feel like I've exploited all the good yaoi there are
I feel like I'm out of materials, and losing my passion because there just isn't anything new
Now I'm digging hard into the DJ and considering exploring real gay porn (I'm really iffy about that)

but I feel like...there just isn't anything anymore

well I know how you feel...I haven't found any yaoi I would thing " wow what a great story!! this is why I love this genre" in a long time..and just finding something to read (I don't like oneshots or collections of oneshots) has become really difficult.....

that's when I started to get into the yaoi novels and I have to say that there are some I would describe as masterpieces (on the same level as haru wo daite ita)...this had me occupied for half a year and now I read almost all yaoi novels I could find that sounded nice ^^...so if you haven't read any yaoi novels jet it's something you should try....

otherwise the only other thing I came up with was - wait till there is new material.... I'm not very found of this idea but that's the only thing you can do if there is REALLY nothing left. or maybe you should try being a little persistent and maybe you'll find a jewel among the mangas you haven't read (but unfortunately I haven't found any in the last few month...reading human club at the moment and till now (volume 6) it's a really good read..and it's pretty unknown so maybe it's something you would like to read....

well back to your question...yes, I think that here is a point where you've read everything good there is and it starts to become a "lifeless genre" if there is nothing there that interests you...but you are even willing to go into real porn so your "passion" for BL is still there....maybe waiting for something new and interesting to appear is the only thing you can do....make a wish list with interesting sounding yaoi that are not jet scanlated/complete and check sometimes if something is finished....that's what I do and it helps to make the waiting bearable XD

I haven't even been reading yaoi as long as you have, and I've already started to feel this way. I prefer longer stories to the more common one volume or collection of one-shots, so its hard to find yaoi that I really like. I also struggle with the genre because I prefer yaoi that is realistic, which is a rare find.

What I've done is started watching gay movies. You can look at this topic to find them: http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?page=3&tid= 18190&hl=movie. I would also recommend watching the series Queer as Folk if you haven't already seen it. I think these options would be better than going to gay porn because they have storylines and plots along with the sex.

And as @zero-chan mentioned, you can start reading novels. They don't have to be yaoi novels, they can also be gay novels from the West. This topic will help: http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?page=1&tid= 18951&hl=books

I haven't been reading yaoi that long either (more like 2 years ish) but I've been reading it like MAD, and now I'm exhausting the yaoi resources. I feel like I've read all the good ones, but the thing is, every few weeks after searching, I find one that is amazing. I really have to read 15 yaois to find one semi decent one.

If you think about it, it would be the same way in every category. In regular manga, it's easy to read all the popular, highest rated good ones, and then be left with thousands of OK, or bad ones. Same with mecha, yuri, and whatever genres. It's a cycle.

I agree with sarablack! It's hard to find good titles, because a lot of yaoi tends to be very formulaic, but there are gems out there. Also considering the fact that most of us here only read titles that are scanlated; there might be a lot of good stuff out there that hasn't been translated yet. Furthermore there are always new authors that might save the genre smile (of course this might just be me being hopelessly optimistic lol)

So I remember reading this post and the (maybe) exploring gay porn comment. And then I saw this youtube video that was linked from...somewhere, I forgot. And it's adorable and got quite hot, even though it's actual guys instead of drawings (just kissing). It's surprising, because being a straight girl, I only like yaoi because it's a fantasy. (Not that I have anything against gays, my best friend is lesbian, but I don't really expect to find real life gays making out hot or anything, you know?) So this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7qTUtMeAwk

came as a surprise at how I find it kind of hot like I would a yaoi.

I think it's because they're asian, so they more or less have the small build of yaoi, and their looks fit uke seme stereotypes or something. But yeah! Just wanted to know if you fellow yaoi fans think the same as I did! biggrin

Ah, and if by some chance linking to youtube isn't allowed (I don't think it is, but just in case) and your curious, the title is "2 chinese cute guys kissing," and just search it on youtube.

Ah... I feel like a major perv, now bigrazz

False... but barely.

Well, true if you're talking about BL/yaoi manga, but the majority of the BL and yaoi are in fandoms like Hetalia, DRRR!!, Homestuck, and loads of shounen manga.

Good doujin are extremely hard to come by. Since they're so short, they're just PWP most of the time.

But I'm so overwhelmed with fanfiction that I've practically given up on archiving all my favourites. I've been a fujoshi for so long and yet I never stop loving it--that doesn't mean I've stopped being incredibly high-maintenance. I go from whxring NicoNico for fumuke videos and finding subs for them and reprinting to youtube... to trying to sort out every good Yullen fic in the D.Gray-Man archive... to surfing Japanese fan art sites (which I can't read)(including the oekaki)... to whxring tumblr and zerochan and Pixiv and DeviantArt... to organizing the annual writing festival for my OTP.
My god. It never ends.

Fear not. Even the western world is getting gayer by the second.
Glee? Gay.
Merlin? Gaaaaaaay.
X-Men 1st Class--...IF THAT ISN'T GAY THEN--
Supernatural--it's impossible to take a het relationship in this show seriously. And so much meta and fanservice adkjgahksdg.
Sherlock Holmes--brooooomance?
Homestuck--...No comment.

Rather than gay porn, why not start with slash? My first real slash pairing was Destiel from Supernatural. (The classic slash pairing is Kirk/Spock, of course. Nowadays, Klaine is really popular.) And advice--try not to stray too far from the twink tags. I've seen some terrifying bear mauling. The only thing I find worse is Bara/Gei-comi. /Shudder.

Ah, my first BL pairing was SasuNaru. XDD" ...Yeah, I know. But I don't love it any less just because 99% of that fandom are tarded hormonal preteen fangirls. I still love that pairing, but it's only 9th on my rankings. /ahem
My first serious pairing, and remains to be my most predominant OTP (other people keep skipping fandoms, sigh) is KandaxAllen from D.Gray-Man. From my earliest record, which is 2007 (I presume I started it 2006)... I've likely been a hardcore fujoshi for at least 5 years.
Five bloody years. I still live for BL, my passion only ever growing.
I'm still tireless, and feel like there's an endless amount to do. And I don't even have my tablet yet.

What do you expect, exactly?
Yaoi is aimed at teenage girls.
And everyone probably knows what yaoi actually stands for...

Sure, there're the exceptions, that remain sadly unscanlated for the most part
(and that are directed towards other audiences), but that's what you get.

I always saw and will see yaoi as porn for girls, so lifeless yeah. but there are actually some with a great story, or deep story. but most of yaoi is smutty shit. (I still read it though. but I'm trying to avoid the stupidest)

Awfully mild, for you.

Just so we're clear on the point:
Yaoi is an acronym for 'YAma nashi Ochi nashi Imi nashi' (lit: No rise, fall, or meaning). Admittedly it's a self-deprecating joke perpetuated by a group of girls that were apparently intelligent enough to have some humor about the lack of reality in the things they were creating (similar origin for the term "fujoshi," btw), but the definition is prudent to the thread, and historically most members of MU in threads like this seem to forget it.

I consider most yaoi basically hentai & when I see someone praise one but hate the other & call it gross I find it to be a little amusing. Thats why I prefer shounen ai/bl/whatever you want to call it. I'm not really into hentai. To be fair considering the meaning of the word yaoi I guess its fitting. Anyway my favorites are still Mirai no Kioku, Doukyuusei (NAKAMURA Asumiko), & Kimi no Mukougawa (typical interfering bitch aside). I used to be more of a fan but not so much anymore. I lean more to shounen ai now. I just need more story in my manga & alot of yaoi lacks it but again to be fair considering the name I guess I'm being silly for expecting more. Its just that situations where one guy is raped & he just walks it off rips me out of the story.

I can take a cliche friends to lovers story. I can tolerate alot of things. But when a character is raped & acts like a blushing hentai girl & just totally treats what happened like its not such a big deal it rips me out of the story. I cant help but have a "come on now really?!" moment. I feel this way about most shoujo smut as well. Its not cliche or unoriginal done before stories that bother me. It's completely weird reactions to serious things. Its like I'm reading it & treating it like a regular romance & then something big happens & the characters react in ways that seem like out of a hentai manga..but again its my fault for expecting more. I'm not being sarcastic btw. I wasnt really aware of the meaning of the word yaoi until recently. When I discovered its meaning I realized it was mostly my own fault.

for me, its not that i forgot about the meaning, its that i have been able to come across a fair amount of yaoi that had good stories and had meaning (at least for me). and when you get to the point where you've read so many yaoi and its harder and harder to find those good stories you start asking "what's happened to yaoi lately?" when in reality its always been the same.

as much as i've been obsessed with yaoi in the past, i'm starting to get to the point where i no longer really care about the genre. and i think that's something most people are going to go through when they've read the vast majority of yaoi that's been scanlated or just as they get older and are no longer interested in the things that they liked when they were young.

I only discovered this 'art form' about five months ago, so I'm still a noob and not bored at all yet.
I read someplace that we who like this like it because it's love represented as it would never exist in real life - that sounds about right to me. My favorite is Yellow, second favorite Finder - but I was disappointed in Asami for sharing the kid with Fei whosis in the most recent chapter. The drawings and the awwww factor are more important to me than the story. OK Yaoi is pure fantasy and ridiculous most of the time - but 'lifeless'? Nah. And sometimes it's cuter than a room full of puppies smile

Umm....but I wasn't asking aboutt he awful plotline or no meaning of story in yaoi here

I was telling how I feel there is literally lack of materials to read, after being a fan of 3 years. there just doesn't seem to be anything I haven't touched (On the genre I like, since I don't like sports or schoollife related yaoi and bara)

it's true that after a few years, there isn't many good story to read. We have to wait mangaka's work and it's rather long sometimes
I read 2 or 3 times the same manga because i don't find a new one, but I always love so much their drawings. They are beautiful smile
