 Torrenting has its pros/cons
Virus wise it has been totally safe for me. Of course at first i downloaded a few unsafe files but then I learned to actually look at the comments and ratings (worked wonders for safety)
Of course there is a chance that one of the peers who are also downloading is secretly copying the ISPs so they can possibly sue you later. Not good at all. This generally happens with new/popular shows/movies software so its easy enough to avoid them..
@Pepino I dont think they will be able to take the content down.. As long as there is a person seeding somewhere it will be available..

If you DL then only the site you are downloading from knows your ISP (safe)..
Its slow
If the site dissapears your f***ed

I agree with the comments on the linked page.. I hope Mediafire doesnt go down! It is by far my favorite downloading site! Fast, reliable and great style.

Funny thing about this is that if they are connected to the tracker, they are also uploading and downloading content... Thus participating in piracy, meaning unlawfully obtained evidence.

 Mediafire is fine, the reason uploaders don't use mediafire is because they don't have a affiliate program. Fileserve, filesonic, uploadstation, and some other site are owned by the same company so thats the reason they suddenly stopped dying. You should be fine if its just anime; the fbi is "mainly" after people who pirate music, games and movies blahblahblah.

 Like Uploaded has just blocked US IP's, I think that sites can just block off US IP's, seems that gets the FBI off them.

I would assume the FBI are after people who pirate anything that an American business, company etc. hold the rights to.
So if someone owns the American publishing rights to an anime then they will come after you if you dl it. Although why bother with small fry when you can go after the people uploading it or making it possible for others to download.

 I wonder if it wouldn't be actually good in this situation if the UN took control over the internet, there are some countries with influence in which the policies aren't yet as strict as in US.

 The problem with the UN taking over the internet is the jurisdiction. How much power should the UN has over the internet? the UN does not follows the US ideal so it can not follow US rules.

At the top end, it can censor or terminate anything it wants like 'free speech'. Should it censor free speech? A fair amount of countries don't allow you to promote certain topics like Germany don't really like it when you promote Nazi (which falls under free speech). Some countries have national religion which will probably ban certain topics too.

What legal in one country might not be legal in another country. If the UN follows a set of rules that will fit everyone then the internet will be extremely restrictive. If the UN follows a middle ground then some countries will not like it and pull out of the UN or create their own group - thus failing the UN mission.

On the lower end, if the UN follows a very lose set of rules then the situation will be the same as it is now. Countries will use their power to affect the internet when they can as the internet has a physical location. Like the FBI doesn't really need to take down Megaupload to stop it. It only needs to take down company that owns the server or a link on the server somewhere in the US. This is because a fair bit of companies that own servers and internet cables are stationed in the US.
