Well, I guess Asian would work too, but most people only think of people of Oriental (such as Chinese, Japanese, Korean) descent when they hear Asian...
Although I think in the UK they use actually do use "Asian" to refer to people from Pakistan and India, since they have a lot of immigrants from those places (and not as many Oriental people)

*By the way I meant people from the Indian Subcontinent/South Asia in general, not just Pakistan and India, are referred to as "Asian" in the UK...
and I hope saying "Oriental" is not considered offensive...

When you say American Indian do you mean people that are Indian from South America too?
You should also change Black or African American to Black or of African descent. (I found out that most people that have African ancestry way back don't call themselves black. It seems to be used a lot as an American term. Obviously not exclusively because some Aborigines consider themselves Black)
Also, if your white or black but also Hispanic?

How about South Asian? I'm from Bangladesh but I don't really consider myself Asian (cause that's usually associated with Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Taiwanese, etc.) nor Arab/Middle Eastern (since those are mostly Arab League nations)

That is true, since Portugal and Spain is more European than what many Americans would consider Hispanic. However there are also some people that do no like being lumped up as Hispanic for various reasons. It all mainly depends on what we mean by it, such as genetics or nationality.
Puerto Rico, for example, is considered Hispanic by many people since, genetically, its has a high percentage of Spanish. However, as a nationality, Puerto Ricans are American. Since Puerto Rico is an American commonwealth, calling someone from there "Puerto Rican" is the same as calling someone from Pennsylvania a "Pennsylvanian".
Blah, its all complicated.

I vote "Hispanic, Latino or Spanish origin", since it is most common term in the U.S., but many consider the term a bit offensive, I think the term you're looking to cover both countries of Latin America as well as Spain and Portugal is "Ibero-american". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ibero-America. Well South Asian is pretty much the same as Asian but with just the south added on....
It's also like asking why there isn't East Asian on there or something.

No, Puerto Rico is a territory like Guam, the Virgin Islands, and formerly the Philippines... It is not the same as calling someone Pennsylvanian, as that would denote they were a state. They are not part of the United States... until they are a state.

Nope, he was right in what he was saying, Hispanic does refer to the people of Hispania(Iberian Peninsula).
