It's not nice to gloat over other people troubles... but it feels so good.

I still had been purchasing a few of their series, but now those will be left incomplete... Time to start learning Japanese!

The sharp increase in Japanese enrollment in schools across the nation is stumping educators. Classes are filled with eager students the second new sections are added.

In other news, Japanese translators previously working with Tokyopop are having much difficulty find alternate positions within other companies. Given the amount of experience most of the translators have, they expected to find comparable positions with ease. One job searcher who wishes to remain anonymous stated, "I submitted my resume along with the basic aptitude test, but they never called me back. When I called to check my status, they asked me if I purposely answered every question incorrectly."

Well fuck.

Loveless, Saiyuki Reload, Wild Adapter, Junjo Romantica, Togainu no Chi, Silver Diamond, Voice or Noise, ahnd several other series I've bought ever fucking volume of...left hanging.

The titles better be rescued. I paid money for the series and I want them in my hands. Scanlations are good but nothing competes with holding that book in your hands and flipping it back and forth several pages or going back to the beginning to re-read it again. I prefer paperbacks/hardbacks over digital...and I pay good money for it.

I've been extremely disappointed with Tokyopop hiatusing series especially when they are so damn close to ending. 2 years of waiting for the last volume of Saiyuki Reload? WTF?

Stu Levy...you let a good and powerful company fall into dust. If you had invested more into promoting the good selling titles you had than in picking up more licenses or starting your off projects than Tokyopop could have most definitely weathered the recession and Borders closing.

Not all businesses are failing. Viz and Yen Press and DMP have top sellers in the New York Times.

Only the businesses that were treading or mismanaged are failing. And this is due to their own failure and NOT scanlations which in essence are free advertisement that build up a market for your company. If you had worked with them rather than against them you could have used them to help the company stay afloat.

Tokyopop was ahead of the curve and set down the practice for manga...but you always had trouble with Americanizing things (really Sailor Moon being called Bunny instead of just saying her name is Usagi which means Bunny and is important because from Japan the 'man on the moon' looks like a bunny?) and faulty translations.

I gave that company thousands of dollars because I loved those series and wanted those books in my hands. I've bought Tokyopop manga books since 2003.

I've seen the writing on the wall for ages...but I was hoping you could wise up and get your ass in gear.

So Tokyopop Germany and your Media side companies are fine but you are dumping North America? And right before your big move comes out which can help boost your book sales?

Bad move. I hope Viz or Yen Press or DMP pick up your titles. They are much more professional and are top quality. Scanlators will be there too. To try to keep series alive so they don't die or get the market killed off.

Not all the translators were bad.

Those who worked on the Saiyuki series were pretty good and gave a lot of information on the history and culture references. Better than the scanlations I saw of the series.

I don't know for a fact, but I doubt it's the translators who would add cultural/historical references.

I always liked the VIZ mangas more anyway!

Well well, this is good news to me XD, i dont like at all Tokyopop since they license series and they just leave them to gather dust... i have send to them so many complains about when are they going to translate another vol of the quite few series in reading that have been licensed by them... like tsukuyomi moon phase, about this serie i send them a few complains about why bother license a serie if the last release made was more than 2 years ago, so i asked them to drop out all the series they are not translating anymore and leave that to scanalations groups, that does a extremely better job than the amateour Tokyopop Translators and editors lol.

Finally heavens have answered my prayers XD (kidding), but now there is nothing to stop scanalation groups to pick up whatever series they want hehe

I've been really frustrated with tokyopop lately anyway. I never liked how they designed their covers. I hated how they would often put a series on hiatus. Because of that, I always waited for a series they got to be completed just in case. I remember they did this way back in early 2000's, don't know if they still do now, but they would occasionally leave out text in bubbles and have some spelling errors. That bugged me the most about them. Well, I guess I don't have to worry about them grabbing more titles anymore. Sayonara TP!

well, i hope that other (and better) publisher take over their series
or maybe it will open the door for scanlators?

Seems ominous, a larger and legal group shuttering in and on top of the smaller guys?
